A field experiment was laid out in the research field of Regional Spices Research Centre, BARI, Gazipur using seedling of BARI Onion-1 during 2012-2013 cropping season to evaluate the efficacy of some fungicides in controlling purple blotch of onion. Seven treatments (Six fungicides and one control) were arranged in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. Among the fungicidal treatments Topral-50wp (Iprodione)@2g/l showed the best performance in reducing the disease as well as increase the bulb yield.

To find out the effective fungicide for controlling purple blotch of onion.
The experiment was conducted in the research field of Regional Spices Research Centre, BARI, Gazipur using seedling of BARI Onion-1 during 2012-2013 cropping season to evaluate the efficacy of some fungicides in controlling purple blotch of onion. Seven treatments (Six fungicides and one control) viz., Topral-50wp(Iprodione)@2g/l, Hama-52.5wp(carbendazim + Iprodione)@2g/l, Graminzim-50wp(carbendazim)@2g/l, Coffin-250EC (Dificonazole)@0.5m/l, Quash-70wp Propineb) @ 2g/l, Rovral-50 wp (Iprodione as cheek) and untreated control were evaluated.
The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. All agronomic measures were taken to establish the crop. The fungicides applied initiated just after onset of disease. Five sprays were executed at 10 days interval. Data were taken on disease incidence, bulb yield and analyzed statistically.

The fungicide Topral-50wp (Iprodione)@2g/l showed better performance in reducing the purple blotch disease severity (Table 1). In case of yield Topral-50wp (Iprodione)@2g/l sprayed plot produced significantly higher bulb yield than all other treatments including control.
For successfull control of purple blotch disease of onion and yield increase could be done by spraying Topral-50wp(Iprodione)@2g/l five times @10 days intervals just from the onset of disease.
