A small power tiller (SPT-1) had been developed, fabricated in the BRRI research workshop and preliminary tests were conducted for its field performance. Results indicted its field capacity 0.03 ha/hr which was comparable and even more than that of the country plough (0.017 ha/hr to 0.02 ha//hr). The estimated price was Tk 16,000- which is less than the price of two bullocks in the current market rate (Tk 19,000/-).

1. To develop a power tiller suitable for small farmers. 2. To fabricate that in the BRRI workshop 3. To test its performance

Preliminary tests of the tiller were conducted for its field performance in BRR! HQ farm and in the farmers field in Lakkhipura, Gazipur. The soil type was clay to clay-loam. Moisture content of the soil ranged from 19.77%-20.6%. The tiller was operated at full throttle.

1. Quality of tilth was better than that of country plough because it breaks soil into a more smaller pieces. 2. A minor difficult in turning was observed so, a free wheel similar to that used in a Auto Van (Usually seen in Bogra and Pabna area) may be used in its left wheel 3. Mouldboard plough may be used to get a good pulverization. 4. A detailed test at different soil condition was recommended to done.
