Processing, ReGIStration and Storage of Rice Germplasm.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Objective of this study was to keep the rice germplasm with respective accession number in the medium and short-term storage of gene bank after duplicate sorting. The varieties were grown for seed increase and rejuvenation during Aus and T.Aman 2004 and Boro 2004-05 were tested for germination.

Objectives:

To keep the rice germplasm with respective accession number in the medium and short-term storage of gene bank after duplicate sorting.

Methodology:

The varieties were grown for seed increase and rejuvenation during Aus and T.Aman 2004 and Boro 2004-05 were tested for germination. The new collections with more than 80% germination were registered as accession after cross checking with the seed and card catalogues to avoid duplication and seed mixture. Then at least 150 g seed of each variety were kept in the glass jar containing fresh silica gel in short term storage and another at least 50 g seed were kept in aluminium foil and stored in airtight glass jar for medium term storage.

Achievement/Findings:

A total 1101 accessions of which 431 accessions in Aus, 415 accessions in T. Aman and 255 accessions in Boro seasons were processed and stored in short and medium-term storages.The seed of the old accessions were stored in their respective zones. A total of 255 new collections of different seasons were registered as new accession( 5184 to 5311) and stored both in short and medium term storages.
