Seventeen materials were found promising (score 5) against white backed planthopper (WBPH) but none was found promising against brown planthopper (BPH) and green leafhopper (GLH) out of 259 materials tested during the year.

  • Identification of resistant sources against major insect pests and development of resistant varieties

A total of 259 entries, germplasm (150) and breeding lines (109) were screened against brown plant hopper (BPH), white backed planthopper (WBPH) and green leafhopper (GLH) during 2009-10. The screening was done by seedling bulk test method in the BRRI greenhouse of Entomology Division.

Out of 150 germplasm entries, no materials were found promising against BPH and GLH but 17 materials were found promising in the preliminary test against WBPH. Three breeding lines showed moderate resistance against BPH. The score of the promising entries were 5.
