An experiment was conducted with some planting materials (Single budded and Bud chip settlings) and Media (water hyacinth, pressmud + Soil, sugarcane bagasse, rice husk and polybag with Soil + Cowdung) used to produce settlings for sugarcane cultivation aiming to get higher yield. The experiment was conducted at RSRS Farm Gazipur during 2005-06 cropping season. Results indicated that settlings mortality was higher in T1 (single buded sett + Water Hyacinth), but all the treatments were statistically insignificant. Tiller production was significantly higher in single buded sett in polybag with soil (258.30x103 ha-1) following single buded sett + Water Hyacinth (258.10x103 ha-1). Single buded sett in polybag with soil also produced the highest (110.10x103 ha-1) number of millable cane which was statistically similar with single buded sett + Pressmud + Soil (101.50x103 ha-1) and single buded sett + Water Hyacinth (93.33x103 ha-1). There were no significant differences among the treatments regarding yield of cane. Overall single buded sett + Water Hyacinth have showed better performance in respect of growth and yield contributing parameter.

An experiment was conducted at RSRS Farm Gazipur during 2005-06 cropping season in order to find out an appropriate planting material with particular media for sugarcane cultivation aiming to get higher yield. Sugarcane variety Isd 36 was used for settlings preparation. The experiment was comprised of ten treatments following RCB design and replicated three times. Treatments were: planting materials (Single budded and Bud chip settlings) and Media (water hyacinth, pressmud + Soil, sugarcane bagasse, rice husk and polybag with Soil + Cowdung) were used.Different types of intercultural operations were done as per schedule.
