Study on the Performance of T.aman Rice - Relay Sugarcane + Boro Rice + Other Short Duration Summer Crop in a Cropping Pattern

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was undertaken to find out the suitable package of two rice (Aman+Boro) with sugarcane in cropping season 2010-2011 at RSRS farm, Gazipur. Results obtained from the experiments that yield of rice was found statistically similar among the treatment in both seasons. Significant difference was observed in respect of tillers, millable cane, cane yield, equivalent cane yield of intercrops and total adjusted cane yield. There was no significant effect found on Brix% for rice cultivation in this experiment. The total adjusted cane yield was recorded highest (95.57 t/ha) in T. Aman-Relay sugarcane in PRC method + Boro rice treatment and the lowest 947.30 t/ha)was in Sole sugarcane treatment. though

Objectives:

1. Finding the suitability of accommodating two rice (Aman+Boro) in a cropping season in sugarcane field.

2. To study the positive/negative effect of two rice (Aman+Boro) on sugarcane growth and yield.

3. To Evaluate the pre and post harvest soil status.

4. Studying the package of sugarcane+Two rice+other short duration summer crop in a cropping season of sugarcane.

Methodology:

An experiment was undertaken in 2010-2011 cropping season at RSRS farm, Gazipur. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with four replications. In relay cropping systems, sugarcane setts were planted in the vacant space of rice field after flowering stage of rice. Recommended fertilizers and management practices for rice and sugarcane under the study were followed. After harvesting of T.aman, in the same space Boro rice were grown successively. The treatments were taken i) T. Aman-Relay sugarcane in PRC method + Boro rice, ii) PRC Sugarcane + Sole T. Aman rice, iii) PRC Sugarcane + Sole Boro rice and iv) Sole sugarcane (PRC) planting. Varieties were used in T. aman BRRI dhan 33, in boro rice BRRI dhan 28 and in sugarcane Isd 40 (water logged tolerant).

Achievement/Findings:

Farmers will be benefited by adopting this crop sequence. Sugarcane can established early in T. aman rice field followed by boro rice. Therefore, farmers will get extra income from T. aman and boro rice other than sugarcane. It will enhance to get more benefit from per unit area and time.
