Determination of Yield Differences of Sugarcane Under Researchers and Farmers Managed Field

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Evaluation of yield gap between farmers managed and researcher’s managed sugarcane plots at Kapasia, Gazipur during 2007-08. Isd 16, Isd 34 and Amrita were planted at Kapasia, Gazipur. In case of Isd 16 germination (61.46%), number of tiller (107.83×103ha-1), no of millable cane (79.39×103ha-1) and yield (103.21 t/ha) was higher in researcher managed field than the farmers managed field. Similarly, Isd 34 gave higher germination, number of tiller, millable cane and yield was 65.42%, 111.5×103 ha-1, 106.33×103 ha-1, 127.6 (TCH) in researcher managed field but 54.5%, 90.77×103 ha-1, 74.55×103 ha-1, 82.00 (TCH) in farmers managed field. However in similar trend was found in case of Amrita variety. From the above discussion, it may be concluded that sugarcane yield was better in researchers managed field than farmers managed field.

Objectives:

Determinations of yield differences of sugarcane under researchers and farmers managed field

Methodology:

A field trial was conducted to determine the yield differences of sugarcane under researchers and farmers managed field during 2007-08 cropping season. Three varieties viz. Isd 16, Isd 34 and Amrita were planted at Kapasia, Gazipur. Twenty farmer's plots were selected surrounding to the researchers plots. All relevant information was collected and recorded all activities started from seed to sugarcane production. These information were collected through a questionnaires prepared earlier according to need. Selected farmer's field (Researchers and Farmers managed) was visited and all necessary information's (yield and yield contributing characters) were taken and recorded. These activities were done in presence of concern researchers and farmers.

Achievement/Findings:

Yield gap between farmers managed and researcher’s managed sugarcane plots were determined. So,farmers will be increased their sugarcane yield by adapting new technologies.
