Fifteen Black Bengal kids of both sexes on average body weight and age sex were 1.79 kg and 12 days, respectively randomly divided into three groups with five kids in each. The diets feed milk replacer as (a) 14% CP (HPMR) (b) 20% CP (MPMR) and (c) 16% (LPMR). Kids were fed milk replacer by bottle feeder six times in a day (7:00 am., 10:00 am., 1:00 pm., 4:00 pm., 7:00 pm., and 10:00 pm) up to 73 days. After onset of the experiment, the kid starter (CP- 26.5% and MD- 11.23) and oat grass (DM: 17.62, CP: 13.41, ADF: 35.99 and OM: 82.4) were provided at 36th and 41th days respectively. Total dry matter intake was significantly (p<0.05) higher in high protein content milk replacer group (HPMR) than medium (MPMR) and low (LPMR) protein content milk replacer group. Efficacy of metabolizable energy utilization for growth was non significantly (p<0.05) higher (0.87) in LPMR kids group compare to MPMR (0.82) and HPMR (0.78) group digestibility of dry matter, crude protein and organic matter were almost similar in among the groups. Nitrogen intake and total nitrogen loss through faeces and urine were significantly three treatment groups. However, nitrogen retention percent as percent of daily nitrogen intake was almost similar among three treatment groups. The growth rate was observed similar among different treatment.

To assess effects of levels of crude protein in the milk replacer on intake, growth and nutrient utilization in Black Bengal kids.

Animals and design: The present study was carried out at Goat and Sheep Research Farm at Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute, Savar, Dhaka. A total of Fifteen Black Bengal kids of both sexes on average age 12 days were randomly divided into three equal groups with five kids each. The kids were maintained in individual pans (24"× 24"× 27") with a layer of straw bedding. The three treatment were: consisted of (a) milk replacer containing 24% CP (HPMR) (b) milk replacer containing 20% CP (MPMR) and (c) milk replacer containing 16% (LPMR). Nutrients content in different milk replacer were DM: 12.46, CP: 24, 20 and 16% and Fat: 24.0%, OM: 91.75, 92.08, 92.12% HPMR, MPMR and LPMR respectively. Mowlem (1981 & 1982) and Morand-Fehr (1982) recommended that the dry matter content in the liquid milk replacer may varied between 12-24% for young kids. The kids were maintained full confinement until the end of the experiment. Monard-Fehr et al. (1982) also reported that the fat content of milk replacer may varied from 15 to 25%. 100 g feed mixed with worm fresh clean water then it was boiled for five minutes and after boiling it was cooled then pour into bottle and fed. Milk replacer was prepared at 100 g mixture / IL worm water and then boiled it at least five minutes and again cooled at 33-37?, and then it was sucked to the kids. Feeding and animal management: Kids were fed milk replacer by bottle feeder six times in a day (7:00 am., 10:00 am., 1:00 pm., 4:00 pm., 7:00 pm., and 10:00 pm) up to 73 days. After onset of the experiment, the kid starter (CP- 26.5% and MD- 11.23) and oat grass (DM: 17.62, CP: 13.41, ADF: 35.99 and OM: 82.4) were provided at 36th and 41th days respectively. Kid starter and green grass were given thrice a day at 7.00 am., 1:00 pm.,8:00 pm. Respectively. Kid weight was recorded weekly before feeding. The sample of milk replacer, kid starter, green grass were taken to determine DM to calculate intake during the trial period. On the day 64 of the experiment, metabolism trial was carried out during 5 days with five animals per group. The faces and urine were collected every morning before the feeding animals. In order to minimize the loss of nitrogen, 100 ml 6N H2 SO4 was added to the bucket for urine collection. The 10% of the bulk was taken and frozen until require for the analysis. Chemical analysis: The feed, orts and feces and nitrogen for the urine samples were analyzed by using the AOAC. Statistical analysis: The result of feed intake and growth rate were analyzed by one way ANOVA using computer software package of General Linear Model producer of SPSSx (11.0 version).

Higher N- excretion through feaces and urine in HPMR and MPMR kids group were may be occurred due to lack of sufficient energy. Lack of required energy, excess protein were may be converted into urea and uric acid which was excreted mostly through urine and faeces. Consequently, reduction in nitrogen utilization and increment in the excretion of urea that can be hazards to the environment. Where feed protein is limited and expensive, maximization of N utilization is the best alternative. In these cage 16% CP containing milk replacer can be recommended for the feeding of goat kids. Further studies are required to investigate with below 16% different crude protein levels (8, 12 and 16%).
