A research work is undertaken to evaluate nutritional quality of two forage silage on sheep. Fifteen intact male growing lambs of 11.48 ± 1.36 kg initial body weight and average 7.5 months old were randomly allotted to three experimental diets having basal diet of natural or rode side grass, napiar silage and splendid silage. Average TDMI is significantly (p<0.01). Estimated metabolizable energy intake is higher (p<0.05) in Napiar silage and natural grass than Splendid silage. Metabolizable energy intake is higher (p<0.05) in Napiar silage Splendid silage and Natural grass. N intake of natural grass is significantly (p<0.05) different with Napier silage but not significant (p<0.01) with Splendid silage. N balance is highest (p<0.05) in Napiar silage than Splendid silage and natural grass. Average daily live weight gain is significantly (p<0.01) higher in Napier silage than Splendid silage and natural grass. The FCE is higher (p<0.01) in Splendid silage than Napier silage and natural grass. In the present trial ADG, male growing lamb was better performed in Napier silage group than Splendid silage group and Natural grass group.

To evaluate nutritional quality of two forage silage on sheep.

Experimental treatment: Fifteen intact male growing lambs of 11.48 ± 1.36 kg initial body weight and average 7.5 months old were divided into three groups and randomly allotted to three experimental diets: rode side grass, napiar silage and splendid silage following completely to evaluate nutritional quality of two forage silage on sheep. Feeding and management of animal: Animals were fed individually and housed in a well-ventilated house. All animals were received water adlibitum to drink and concentrate mixture (broken maize-30.0%, wheat bran-20.0%, kheshari bran-20.0%, soyabean meal-24.0%, fish meal-2.0%, DCP-2.0%, salt-2.0% and vitamin-0.1%) at the rate of 2% of their live weight on fresh basis and adjusted every week with the change of weight animals. The concentrate allowance was divided into two halves and offered at 8.00 am. and 3.00 pm. The animals were weighted weekly and feed refusal was weighted every day to estimate daily intake and continued through out the experimental period of 70 days. At the onset feeding trial, animals were dewormed with required doses of Endex. The concentrate mixture and silage were offered in separate feeders. Feeder and waterer were cleaned and washed prior to their morning meal daily. Digestibility trial: Feaces and urine were collected individually to determine digestibility and nitrogen balance. The trial was lasted 7 days. Feaces was collected at every 8.00 a.m. and after 24 hours, weighted and sub-sample was taken every day from an animal. Urine was collected with 6N H2SO4 to keep below 4 PH and was made 1.0 litre and taken 10% sub-sample to determine N. Feed refuals were weighted every morning and also sub-sample was taken every day from an animal. Silage and concentrate sample was taken every from every lot of feed. During collection period all representative samples were preserved at-20?. Chemical analysis: All samples were drawn out from freeze and thawed seven samples of feaces were mixed thoroughly and a composite sample was taken for the determination of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), and crude protein (CP) on fresh basis and dried in an oven to determine acid detergent fiber (ADF) according to method described by AOAC. The chemical composition of refusal were determined in the same procedure. Statistical analysis: The data were analyzed by using uni-variate GLM procedure of SPSS 11.1 for windows (SPSS Inc. 2000) statistical package, data of intake, growth rate, food conservation ratio, digestibility and N balance.

From average body weight gain and FCE analysis it is shown that Napier and Splendida silage group was better as compare to other group (Natural grasses). It is conducted that the Napier and Splendida silage would be used for feeding lamb production system in Bangladesh.
