Integrated Rice Production Training for Sub Assistant Agriculture Officers (saao):2011-2012

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Objective of this study was to transfer BRRI developed modern rice production and other relevant technologies to the field level for improving total rice production of the country. A total of 191 SAAO from four districts were attained in this course. A benchmark and final evaluation of the participants were done at the beginning and at the end of the training program. Knowledge improvement at different batches of IMDP varied widely, which ranged from 141% to 294% with a very good average of 204%. Again improvement of knowledge for the participants of IAPP also varied greatly and that is 343% to 286%. This wide range of improvement might be due to the difference of age and working experiences of the trainees.

Objectives:

To transfer BRRI developed modern rice production and other relevant technologies to the field level for improving total rice production of the country.

Methodology:

Training programme on 'Integrated rice production' for the Sub Assistant Agriculture Officer (SAAO) of DAE was designed and conducted using the fund of 'Integrated Mujibnagar Development Project (IMDP) and Integrated Agricultural Productivity Project (IAPP). Under IMDP eight batches were conducted. A total of 191 SAAO from four districts such as Kushtia, Meherpur, Chuadanga and Jhenaidah where the project was implemented were participated. On the other hand,four training batches were conducted under IAPP. The participants were came from project site viz Rangpur and Barisal district and the number of participants was 96. Training schedule was designed with class room lecture, presentation on special topics by the participants, group discussion, practical on hand, research field visit. A benchmark and final evaluation of the participants were done at the beginning and at the end of the training program. Knowledge improvement of the participants were calculate based on difference between benchmark and final evaluation.

Achievement/Findings:

Knowledge improvement at different batches of IMDP varied widely, which ranged from 141% to 294% with a very good average of 204%. Again improvement of knowledge for the participants of IAPP also varied greatly and that is 343% to 286%. Performance status of the participants' indicated the need and importance of rice production training. Therefore, this course should be continued for all field level workers. Moreover, the participants also showed very much interested about the course and requested to continue for the improvement of knowledge and skill of all extension workers.
