Cropping Pattern Survey in Different Upazila of Chittagong District

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The major objective this study was to identify major cropping patterns and MV rice coverage under different land types. Questionnaires were used to collect the data. It was found that In Chittagong district, Boro-Fallow-T.Aman was the most dominant cropping pattern in Raozan (53%), Chandanaish (60%) and Anwara (36%) upazilas. Fallow-T.Aus-T.Aman was one of the major cropping patterns in Anwara, Chandanaish and Fatikchari.

Objectives:

i) To identify major cropping patterns and MV rice coverage under different land types. ii) To identify yield level of MV rice for different land types. iii) To identify major constraints to further adoption of MV rice and iv) To identify opportunities for increasing cropping intensity and land productivity by identifying fallow period under different cropping patterns.

Methodology:

Questionnaires were sending back to RFSD, which were previously distributed to different upazilas. The information were computerized, processed and analyzed in collaboration with the scientists of Agricultural Statistics Division. Concerned scientist visited the office of UAO to meet up any query raise by the analyst during processing and analyzing the collected data.

Achievement/Findings:

In Chittagong district, Boro-Fallow-T.Aman was the most dominant cropping pattern in Raozan, Chandanaish and Anwara upazilas. The Boro-Fallow-T.Aman cropping pattern was also found as one of the major cropping patterns in Mirshari and Fatikchari. The Fallow-Fallow-T.Aman was the most dominant cropping pattern in Fatikchari upazila. This cropping pattern was also existed as one of the major cropping patterns in Mirshari, Raozan, Chandanaish and Anwara upazilas. The Fallow-T.Aus-T.Aman is the most dominant cropping pattern in Mirshari. Fallow-T.Aus-T.Aman was one of the major cropping patterns in Anwara, Chandanaish and Fatikchari.
