Cropping Pattern Survey in Different Areas of Hill Tract Region

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The main objective of this study was to identify major cropping patterns and MV rice coverage under different land types with three others. All the related data were collected through questionnaires.In Hill Tract Region, Boro-Fallow-T. Aman was the most dominant cropping pattern in most of the upazilas. Fallow-Fallow-T.Aman, Fallow-Aus-T.Aman, Fallow-S. Veg.-Fallow, Boro-Aus-T.Aman, Boro-Fallow-Fallow, Fallow-S. Veg.-T.Aman, Tobacco-Fallow-T.Aman and Fallow-Aus-Fallow were the most dominant cropping patterns in some upazillas.

Objectives:

i) To identify major cropping patterns and MV rice coverage under different land types. ii) To identify yield level of MV rice for different land types. iii) To identify major constraints to further adoption of MV rice and iv) To identify opportunities for increasing cropping intensity and land productivity by identifying fallow period under different cropping patterns.

Methodology:

Questionnaires were send back to RFSD, which were previously distributed to different upazilas. The information were computerized, processed and analyzed in collaboration with the scientists of Agricultural Statistics Division. Concerned scientist visited the office of UAO to meet up any query raise by the analyst during processing and analyzing the collected data.

Achievement/Findings:

Fallow-Fallow-T.Aman was the most dominant cropping pattern in Juraichari (25%), Rajsthali (59%) and Manikchari (34%). This cropping pattern was also existed as one of the major cropping patterns in Langadu, Bagaichari, Panchari, Dighinala, Matiranga, Ramgarh, Lakshmichari, Bandorban Sadar and Khagrachari Sadar upazilas. Boro-Fallow-T.Aman was the most dominant cropping pattern in Langadu (26%), Bagaichari (56%), Khagrachari Sadar (35%), Kutubdia (12%) and Matiranga (30%). The Boro-Fallow-T.Aman cropping pattern was also found as one of the major cropping pattern in Juraichari, Rajsthali, Panchari, Ramgarh, Lakshmichari, Manikchari, Rowangchhari, Bandorban Sadar and Bakrkal. Fallow-Aus-T.Aman was the most dominant cropping pattern in Lakshmichari (29%) and Bandorban Sadar (29%). This cropping pattern was also found as one of the major cropping pattern in Ramgarh, Matiranga, Bakrkal, Langadu, Juraichari, Thanchi and Panchari. Fallow- S. Veg.-Fallow was the most dominant cropping pattern Bakrkal (30%). This cropping pattern was also found as one of the major cropping pattern in Rajsthali and Ramgarh. Boro-Aus-T.Aman was the most dominant cropping pattern in Panchari (24%). This cropping pattern was also found as one of the major cropping pattern in Bakrkal and Ramgarh. Boro-Fallow-Fallow was the most dominant cropping pattern in Dighinala (43%). This cropping pattern was also found as one of the major cropping pattern in Bakrkal, Langadu, Rowangchhari, Juraichari and Bagaichari. Fallow- S. Veg.-T.Aman was the most dominant cropping pattern in Ramgarh (35%). This cropping pattern was also found as one of the major cropping pattern in Langadu, Juraichari, Bandorban Sadar and Lakshmichari. Tobacco-Fallow-T.Aman and Fallow-Aus-Fallow was the most dominant cropping pattern in Rowangchhari (50%) and Thanchi (70%).
