Cropping Pattern Survey in Different Upazila of Mymensingh Region

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

In Mymensingh region, Boro-Fallow-T. Aman was the most dominant cropping pattern in most of the upazilas. Boro-Fallow-Fallow and Boro-T. Aus-T. Aman were the most dominant cropping pattern in some upazillas. Boro-Fallow-T. Aman, Boro-T. Aus-T. Aman, Wheat-Jute-T. Aman, Mustard/Boro-Fallow-T. Aman were the major cropping patterns in high land and medium high land. Boro-Fallow-Fallow was the major cropping pattern in low land and medium low land. Several other cropping patterns were existed in other land types.

Objectives:

i) To identify major cropping patterns and MV rice coverage under different land types. ii) To identify variety wise coverage and yield level of MV rice for different land types. iii) To identify major constraints to further adoption of MV rice. iv) To identify opportunities for increasing cropping intensity and land productivity by identifying fallow period under different cropping patterns.

Methodology:

Questionnaires are sending back to RFSD, which were previously distributed to different upazilas. The information were computerized, processed and analyzed in collaboration with the scientists of Agricultural Statistics Division. Concerned scientist visited the office of UAO to meet up any query raise by the analyst during processing and analyzing the collected data.

In Mymensingh region, Boro-Fallow-T. Aman is the most dominant cropping pattern in Mymensingh Sadar, Muktagacha, Trisal, Dubaura, Bhaluka, Gafargaon, Nandail, Ishwargonj, Gauripur, Phulpur, Jamalpur Sadar, Sarishabari, Madargonj, Islampur, Dewangonj, Baksigonj, Melandah, Sherpur Sadar, Shreebardi, Nokla, Jhenaigati, Netrokona Sadar, Barhatta, Kendua, Atpara, Purbadhala, Kalmakanda, Durgapur, Kishregonj Sadar, Kuliarchar, Bajitpur, Karimgonj and Pakundia upazilas. The Boro-Fallow-T. Aman cropping pattern was also found as one of the major cropping patterns in Phulbaria, Haluaghat, Madan, Mohongonj, Nikli, Katiadi, Bhairab and Hossainpur upazilas. The Boro-Fallow-Fallow is the most dominant cropping pattern in Madan, Mohongonj, Nikli, Bhairab, Austagram, Tarail, Itna, Mithamoin upazilas. This cropping pattern is also existed as one of the major cropping patterns in Bhaluka, Gafargaon, Ishwargonj, Gauripur, Phulpur, Madargonj, Melandah, Sherpur Sadar, Shreebardi, Netrokona Sadar, Kendua, Atpara, Kalmakanda, Durgapur, Kuliarchar, Katiadi, Bajitpur, Hossainpur and Karimgonj upazilas. The Boro-T. Aus-T. Aman is the most dominant cropping pattern in Phulbaria, Haluaghat, Katiadi and Hossainpur. This cropping pattern was also existed as one of the cropping patterns in Mymensingh Sadar, Muktagacha, Trisal, Gafargaon, Nandail, Ishwargonj, Kishoregonj Sadar, Karimgonj upazilas. Other major cropping patterns were: Mustard/Boro-Fallow-T. Aman, Fallow-T. Aus-T. Aman, Wheat-Jute-T. Aman, Winter vegetables- Summer vegetables- T. Aman, Pulses- T. Aus-T. Aman, Wheat-Fallow-T. Aman, Fallow-Fallow-T. Aman, Boro-Fallow-B. Aman, Wheat-Jute-Fallow. Boro-Fallow-T. Aman, Boro-T. Aus-T. Aman, Wheat-Jute-T. Aman, Mustard/Boro-Fallow-T. Aman are the major cropping patterns in the highland. In medium highland, Boro-Fallow-T. Aman, Boro-T. Aus-T. Aman, Wheat-Jute-T. Aman, Mustard/Boro-Fallow-T. Aman, Wheat-T. Aus-T. Aman, Fallow-T. Aus-T. Aman, Winter vegetables-T. Aus-T. Aman, Fallow-Fallow-T. Aman, Winter vegetables-Fallow-T. Aman are the major cropping pattern in most of the upazilas. Boro-Fallow-T. Aman, Boro-T. Aus-T. Aman, Boro-Fallow-Fallow, Wheat-Jute-T. Aman, Mustard/Boro-Fallow-T. Aman, Fallow-T. Aus-T. Aman, Mustard-Jute-T. Aman cropping patterns were the most dominant cropping patterns in medium low land in most of the upazilas. In lowland and very lowland, Boro-Fallow-Fallow is the most dominant cropping pattern.
