Cropping Pattern Survey in Different Upzillas of Rangpur Division

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Main objective of this study was to identify major cropping patterns and MV rice coverage under different land types with other three more. Data were collected through Questionnaires. In greater Rangpur district, Boro-Fallow-T.Aman was the most dominant cropping pattern in most of the upazilas. Maize-Fallow –T.Aman, Mustard/Boro-Fallow-T.Aman, Wheat-Fallow-T.Aman and Potato-T.Aus-T.Aman were the most dominant cropping patterns in some upazillas.

Objectives:

i) To identify major cropping patterns and MV rice coverage under different land types. ii) To identify yield level of MV rice for different land types. iii) To identify major constraints to further adoption of MV rice and iv) To identify opportunities for increasing cropping intensity and land productivity by identifying fallow period under different cropping patterns.

Methodology:

Questionnaires were sending back to RFSD, which were previously distributed to different upazilas. The information were computerized, processed and analyzed in collaboration with the scientists of Agricultural Statistics Division. Concerned scientist visited the office of UAO to meet up any query raise by the analyst during processing and analyzing the collected data.

Boro-Fallow-T.Aman was the most dominant cropping pattern in Rangpur Sadar (45%), Gangachara (49%), Pirgacha (55%), Pirganj (76%), Badarganj (58%), Mithapukur (69%), Taraganj (48%), Palashbari (71%), Gobindoganj (46%), Saghata (60%), Phulchari (39%), Sadullahpur (72%), Kurigram Sadar (58%), Ulipuri (58%), Chilmari (61%), Rajibpur (22%), Nageshwari (58%), Rajarhat (83%), Lalmonirhat Sadar (67%), Aditmari (55%), Kaliganj (71%), Hatibandha (40%), Nilphamari Sadar (80%), Saidpur (63%), Dimla (59%), Jaldhaka (61%), Kishoreganj (50%), Dinajpur Sadar (42%), Parbortipur (91%), Phulbari (74%), Birampur (82%), Hakimpur (90%), Bochaganj (57%), Kaharole (46%), Birganj (47%), Khansama (53%), Tetulia (34%), Atwari (35%), Boda (39%), Debiganj (49%), Kaunia (71%), Gaibandha Sadar (80%), Sundarganj (83%), Domar (66%), Chirirbandar (69%), Ghoraghat (58%), Thakurgaon Sadar (38%) and Haripur (41%). Maize-Fallow –T.Aman was the most dominant cropping pattern in Patgram (34%) and Biral (35%). Mustard/Boro-Fallow-T.Aman was the most dominant cropping pattern in Nowabganj (18%). Wheat-Fallow-T.Aman was the most dominant cropping pattern in Baliadangi (29%), Pirganj (30%), Ranisankail (43%) and Panchagarh Sadar (30%). Potato-T.Aus-T.Aman was the most dominant cropping pattern in Raomari (34%).
