Feeding Effect of Ca-salts of Fatty Acids on Fatty Acids Profile in Milk

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A study was undertaken to investigate the effects of Calcium Salt of Fatty acid on the fatty acids profile of milk fed green German grass and concentrated diet. Twenty lactating Pabna cows having approximately similar in daily milk yield (3.4±0.842 Kg) were used land divided into four groups having five animals in each groups. The study revealed that saturation and unsaturation fatty acids of milk fat were 61.12, 57.83, 54.93, 54.56 and 38.36, 42.22, 45.22 and 45.5 38% in treatment groups T₀ (without Calcium Salt of FattyAcid), T₁ (2.0% Calcium Salt of Fatty Acid), T₂ (2.5% Calcium Salt of Fatty Acid) and T₃ (3.0% Calcium Salt of Fatty Acid), respectively. The highest unsaturation was found in T₃ treatment groups. The plametic acid content in milk fat were 25.47, 27.22, 26.22 and 26.22% in treatment groups T₀ (without Calcium Salt of Fatty Acid), T₁ (2.0% Calcium Salt of Fatty Acid), T₂ (2.5% Calcium Salt of Fatty Acid) and T₃ (3.0% Calcium Salt of Fatty Acid), respectively. The highest palmetic acid found in T₂ treatment and lowest in T₀ treatment. The stearic acid content in milk fat were 22.98, 15.78, 13.74 and 13.68% in treatment groups T0 (without Calcium Salt of Fatty Acid), T1 (2.0% Calcium Salt of Fatty Acid), T₂ (2.5% Calcium Salt of Fatty Acid), T₃ (3.0% % Calcium Salt of Fatty Acid), respectively. Statistical analysis showed that there is a significant (p.01) difference in the treatment groups for stearic acid of milk fat. The linoleic acid content in milk fat at were 1.57, 1.64, 1.73 and 1.94% in treatment groups T₀ (without Calcium Salt of Fatty Acid), T₁ (2.0% Calcium Salt of Fatty Acid), T₂ (2.5 Calcium Salt of Fatty Acid) and T₃ (3.0% Calcium Salt of Fatty Acid), respectively. It may be concluded that the feeding Ca-salts of fatty acids increased unsaturation of milk fat, oleic acid, linoleic and linolenic acid and decrease saturation and stearic acid in milk fat. Milk samples were collected from cow at a week interval and were analyzed for fat, protein, lactose, SNF and minerals contents by milk analyzer lactostar. The data wre analyzed useing "MSTAT" statistical program to compute analysis of variance (ANOVA) for a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD). In the analysis of milk parameters, initial milk yield was taken as covariate and then analyzed accordingly.

Objectives:

2. To identify the increased unsaturatiion of milk fat, oleic acid, linoleic and linolenic acid and decrease saturation and stearic acid in milk fat

Methodology:

Experimental site - the experiment was conducted at the Animal production Research Division, Pachutia Dairy Farm, Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (LBRI), Savar, Dhaka. Directary treatments of 20 cows were divided into five blocks according to milk yieidl and parity. The caws in each block were then assigned at random to four dietary treatments having five animals in each treatment. The dietary treatments were T₀ = German grass + Concentrate mixture without Ca salt of fatty acid, T₁ = German grass + Concentrate mixture + 2% Ca salt of fatty acid, T₂ = German grass + Concentrate mixture + 2.5 % Ca salt of fatty acid, T₃= German grass + Concentrate mixture + 3% Ca salt of fatty acid. our diets were formulated using green German grass and concentrate mixture and at different proportions of Calcium salt of fatty acid. Ingredient and chemical composition for four diets analyses of feed were done in the Animal Nutrition Laboratory of BLRI. All proximate and other components of feed and fecal materials were done by following the standard methods. Kjeldhal method was used for determining the Nitrogen (N) content of feed, faeces and milk and the crude protein content were estimated as N x 6.25. the fatty acid profile of milk fat was performed in Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST).

Achievement/Findings:

In may be concluded that the feeding Ca-salts of fatty acids increased un-saturation of milk fat, oleic acid, linoleic and linolenic acid and decrease saturation and stearic acid in milk fat. Based on the above finding it may be concluded that 2.5% Calcium salt of fatty acid may be recommended for increasing the unsaturated fatty acids in milk of dairy cattle.
