Cost and Return of Hyv Rice Cultivation at Different Season.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

This study was under taken to determine the cost of cultivation with the following objectives-i) Determine the cost of rice cultivation in present situation. ii) Generate primary data on the cost of HYV rice cultivation that can help better planning. This study was conducted during Aus, T.Aman and Boro 04-05 season at the West Byde of the BRRI Fram. Four plots, each of 20 m x 20m size were taken for each season. Labor requirement for different operation such as transplanting, weeding, harvesting, threshing and winnowing were done by direct supervision. It was observed that total variable cost for rice production in one hectare of land was TK. 22283, 25062 & 32856 in Aus, Aman & Boro sensons respectively.

Methodology:

This study was conducted during Aus, T.Aman and Boro 04-05 season at the West Byde of the BRRI Fram. Four plots, each of 20 m x 20m size were taken for each season. The variety BR26, BRRI dhan41, BRRI dhan29 were used for experimental purpose in Aus, Aman & Boro season respectively. Labor requirement for different operation such as transplanting, weeding, harvesting, threshing and winnowing were done by direct supervision.

Achievement/Findings:

It was observed that total variable cost for rice production in one hectare of land was TK. 22283, 25062 & 32856 in Aus, Aman & Boro sensons respectively. This total variable cost included the cost of labor, diesel, driver, seedling, fertilizer and irrigation. Boro season required the highest cost due to higher irrigation cost and higher number of laborers needed for in transplanting operation compared to Aus and Aman season. The highest gross return was found in Boro season (Tk.76600) followed by Aman (Tk. 53720) and Aus (Tk. 43170) season. The gross margin was Tk. 20887, 28658 & 43744 in Aus, Aman & Boro seasons respectively. The BCR were 1.94, 2.14 & 2.33 in Aus, Aman & Boro seasons respectively.
