Chemical Control of Sheath Blight Disease of Rice at BRRI Gazipur and Rajshahi During T. Aman 2011

Among the nineteen fungicides only Power Blast effectively control sheath blight disease and the average disease reduction was 82.07 % for both the location. Green DT, Setal, Monceren, Hectic and Azotro will be tested for more clarification in the next T. Aman season

Objectives:

To determine the efficacy of new chemicals against sheath blight disease of rice

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted in T. Aman season at BRRI Gazipur and Rajshahi farm to observe the effect of new fungicides against sheath blight disease of rice under artificial inoculation condition. Nineteen fungicides were tested with one diseased control treatment. Thirty days old seedlings of BR11 was transplanted with the spacing 20cm X 15cm having 2-3 seedlings/hill during T. Aman season. Plot size was 1m X 1m with 3 replications. Fertilizers were used as per recommended dose. Cultural management was done as and when necessary. The plants were inoculated with local Rhizoctonia solani culture grown on PDA medium at Panicle Initiation stage. Eight hills were inoculated from central area at random. New fungicides were sprayed at their recommended dose twice; once at 5 days after inoculation and second time at 7 days after first spray. Relative Lesion Height (RLH) data was taken at dough stage.
