CEGIS developed DRAS model for rice irrigation was verified by IWM Division, BRRI at field level with some modifications such as including percolation rate and irrigation cut of date and helped to predict NIR with more accuracy than original model. Although DRAS model predicted slightly higher values than BRRI recommended water management practice for rice, it seems to provide irrigation water requirements for rice with sufficient accuracy for farming community. The model was validated with sufficient accuracy in boro season and could be used for irrigation and crop planning to optimize water use efficiency in rice cultivation.

To compare model predicted net irrigation requirement with BRRI recommended water application for rice irrigation.

Experiment was set-up during boro season with 9 treatments and was replicated thrice. T1=application of 50-60 mm irrigation water 3 days after ponded water disappeared from rice field (BRRI recommendation) T2= NIR application considering ET, S&P and RF at 0.5p (average year rainfall and 5% allowable depletion level T3= NIR application considering instantaneous ET, S&P and RF T4=NIR application same as T2 except seepage i.e. using reported percolation only and levee protected by poly sheet T5= NIR application same as T3 except seepage i.e. using reported percolation only and levee protected by poly sheet T6=NIR application same T2 but considering 0.20 allowable depletion T7=NIR application same T3 but considering 0.20 allowable depletion T8=NIR application same T3 but considering 0.40 allowable depletion T9=NIR application same T3 but considering 0.60 allowable depletion
