The experiment was conducted in a poly house of Horticulture Research Centre of BARI, Gazipur during the winter season of 2006-2007. The night temperatures with in the poly shed was maintained between 150-170C for favorable condition. Furrow and drip irrigations were used in the study. The yield of capsicum was obtained as high as 13.64 t/ha using a fertilizer dose, N80 P66 K80 S20 Zn4 kg/ha and irrigated by drip method. The size and shape of fruits were also attractive in this treatment. Compared to this treatment, the furrow irrigation treatment with fertilizer dose of N100 P66 K100 S20 Zn4 kg/ha produced only 9.69 t/ha of fruit yields. The internal rate of return for this drip method was also obtained 5.76 over furrow irrigation. With the growing demand of capsicum in Bangladesh, its commercial farming under controlled environment with drip irrigation system should be encouraged.

The study was undertaken in poly net house to assess the performance of fertigation system on capsicum yield and the cost effectiveness of the system.
The field experiment was conducted in the poly house of HRC, BARI, Gazipur during the rabi season of 2006-2007. The soil was sandy loam and low fertile. The initial nutrient status of the soil of the experiment field was analyzed. The variety of the crop was California Wonder. The experiment had the following treatment combinations.
Treatments
T1 = Furrow irrigation with recommended doses of fertilizers N100 P66 K100 S20 Zn4 kg/ha
T2 = Drip irrigation at an alternate day with N80 P66 K80 S20 Zn4 kg/ha
T3 = Drip irrigation at an alternate day with N60 P66 K60 S20 Zn4 kg/ha
T4 = Drip irrigation at an alternate day with N40 P66 K40 S20 Zn4 kg/ha
The treatments were replicated thrice and 30 days old seedlings were transplanted on 21 November, 2006. Furrow irrigation was applied upto field capacity at an interval of 7 days based upon the soil moisture monitoring by gravimetric method. Irrigation was applied though drip system based on crop ET demand. The emitter discharge was 4.60-4.70 litres/hr. Furrow irrigation was applied through hose pipes. Fertigation was done three times on December 3, 2006, December 22, 2006 and January 8, 2007. Harvesting was started on December 18, 2007. Plant height, no of branches/plant, unit fruit weight, length and diameter of fruit, curl and marketable yield were collected from selected samples. The cost analysis was done for the whole production system.
Annual Research Report 2006-2007, IWM, BARI
As capsicum is a very high value crop, it is profitable to cultivate capsicum in poly house under drip irrigation system. It has a lot of demand in the supper markets of our country. The large/commercial farmers may take this opportunity to meet up this demand. This study should be continued for another year. For quality fruits, research on the effect of micronutrient through fertigation on capsicum should also be under taken.
