An experiment was conducted at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Ishurdi, Pabna during 2012-13 to observe the resistance of 10 bottle gourd varieties against leaf blight disease. Among 10 varieties, two varieties namely BARI lau-4 and Boistomi lau showed resistant (R) reaction. Eight varieties showed moderately resistant (MR) reaction against leaf blight disease. The highest yield (36.83 t/ha) was recorded from Joy-2 and the lowest was obtained from Joy-1.

Pest Management
To locate source of resistance against leaf blight disease of bottle gourd .
The experiment was conducted at RARS, Ishurdi, Pabna during rabi 2012-13 using 10 varieties including 6 local. The seeds were sown on October 25, 2012 and transplanted in the main field on November 25, 2012. The experimental design was RCBD with three replications. The unit plot size was 2mX2m and spacing was 1mX1m. Fertilizers and manures were applied as per recommendation. Irrigation and other cultural practices were performed as and when necessary. Data were recorded on number of fruits/plant, weight of fruits/plant and yield. Leaf blight disease of Bottle gourd was recorded on 0-5 scale. The scoring scale was 0= No infection (HR), 1= 1-10% plant infections (R), 2=10.1-20% plant infection (MR), 3= 20.1-30% plant infection (MS), 4=30.1-50% plant infection (S) and 5= above 50% plant infection (HS).The recorded data were analyzed statistically following the Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DMRT).
Annual Report 2012-13
Results of the reaction for leaf blight disease of bottle gourd varieties are presented here. It was observed that two varieties showed resistant reaction namely BARI lau-4 and Boistomi lau, eight varieties showed moderately resistant reaction to leaf blight disease.
