Field trials were conducted at 10 different cotton growing areas in Bangladesh to explore the yield advantage of foliar applied Urea at farmers field. Soil-applied Urea (225 kg/ha) with 8 foliar spray of 2% Urea starting from first flowering at 7 days interval were tested against soil-applied Urea (250 kg/ha) only. At all the locations combined soil and foliar applied Urea gave the higher yield than the soil applied Urea only.

The objective of this study was to explore the yield advantage of foliar-application of urea at farmers field.

The experiments were conducted at 10 different zones of Cotton Development board located in Jessore, Jenaidah, Chuadanga, Kustia, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Bogra, Mymensingh, Bandarban during 2003-2004 to evaluate the foliar applied urea at farmers field. There were two treatments viz., 1. soil-applied urea (225 kg/ha) with 8 foliar spray of 2% Urea starting from first flowering at 7 days interval and 2. soil- applied Urea (250 kg/ha) only. Unit plot size was 25 m×25 m. All other management practices were uniform for all locations as recommended by Cotton Development Board.

The seed cotton yield obtained at Jessore, Jenaidah, Chuadanga, Kustia, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Bogra, Mymensingh, Bandarban zone were 1494, 1697, 1655, 2590, 1832, 1439, 1840, 1185, 1712 and 1968 kg/ha from combined soil (225 kg/ha Urea) and foliar (8 foliar spray of 2 % Urea starting from first flowering at 7 days interval) applied Urea respectively. The seed cotton yield obtained from soil-applied Urea (250kg/ha Urea) only were 1264, 1333, 1177, 2190, 1688, 1359, 1600, 1055, 1520, 1952 kg/ha at Jessore, Jenaidah, Chuadanga, Kustia, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Bogra, Mymensingh, Bandarban zone respectively.
