Field experiments were conducted in 2004- 2005 at Sreepur, Sadarpur and Jagadishpur Cotton Research Farm to find out the economic returns of soil and foliar applied Urea. Combined application of soil and foliar applied Urea gave the higher yield at all locations than soil applied Urea only. The highest gross benefit were obtained in combination of soil applied urea and 7, 4 and 8 foliar spray of Urea at Sreepur, Sadarpur and Jagadishpur farm respectively.

The objective of this study was to determine whether the combination of soil and foliar applied Urea was profitable than only soil-applied Urea in cotton production.

Experiments were conducted in 2004-2005 growing period at three research farms of Cotton Development Board located in Sreepur, Sadarpur and Jagadishpur to compare the comparative benefits of combined soil and foliar applied Urea with soil applied Urea only. The treatments were: 1. Soil-applied Urea (250 kg/ha) 2. Soil-applied Urea (226 kg/ha) + 8 foliar spray of 2% Urea (24 kg/ha) 3. Soil-applied Urea (229 kg/ha) + 7 foliar spray of 2% Urea (21 kg/ha) 4. Soil-applied Urea (232 kg/ha) + 6 foliar spray of 2% Urea (18 kg/ha) 5. Soil-applied Urea (235 kg/ha) + 5 foliar spray of 2% Urea (15 kg/ha) 6. Soil-applied Urea (238 kg/ha) + 4 foliar spray of 2% Urea (12 kg/ha) The treatments were allocated in plots following RCBD with 4 replications. Cotton variety CB-9 was used as test materials. The unit plot size was 10m × 10m and the plant spacing was 90 cm × 45 cm. Two or three seeds were sowing per hill. Though, after final thinning one seedling per hill was allowed to grow. Intercultural operations such as weeding, thinning, gap-filling, earthling-up, irrigation, insects and pest management were done in all plots uniformly. Cotton yield contributing characters such as plant height, number of vegetative and fruiting branches/plant, number of effective boll/plant, single boll weight were recorded from 10 randomly selected plants and seed cotton yield was recorded from each plot. Statistical analysis was done by MSTAT.

The gross benefits obtained at Sreepur farm were 10275.00, 12925.00, 8275.00, 11650.00 and 9850.00 Taka from 8, 7, 6, 5 and 4 foliar spray respectively in combination of soil-applied Urea over control (soil-applied Urea only). The gross benefits obtained at Sadarpur farm were 15975.00, 11750.00, 17600.00, 10550.00 and 18975.00 Taka from 8, 7, 6, 5 and 4 foliar spray respectively in combination of soil-applied Urea over soil-applied Urea only. The gross benefits obtained at Jagadishpur farm were 18775.00, 7250.00, 8925.00, 17975.00 and 9375.00 Taka from 8, 7, 6, 5 and 4 foliar spray respectively in combination of soil-applied Urea over soil-applied Urea only.
