A Power tiller operated multicrop, multi-row, minimum tillage seeder was developed in FMPE Division of BARI. The seeder was tested for sowing wheat and mungbean in the BARI experimental plot in the year 2001-2003. The width of sowing was 60 cm. The seeder was operated by a 12 hp Chinese power tiller. During the field test, rotavator speed was about 450-500 rpm. Before sowing, the seed-motoring unit was adjusted with the respective crop seed rate. After the germination of seeds, plant population was counted. The cost of the seeder was Tk. 5000.

Farm Mechanization
1. To design and fabrication of power tiller operated multicrop minimum tillage seeder
2. To test the seeder for sowing of mungbean and wheat
The seeder is fabricated with locally available materials and is simple in construction. The different functional parts of the seeder are (i) frame, (ii) seed hopper, (iii) seed metering unit, (iv) agitator (v) seed delivery tubes, (vi) furrow makers, (vii) soil compaction roller and (viii) transport wheel. The different functional parts are assembled on the main frame and the frame is attached at the rear of the rotavator replacing the tail wheel. The main frame is made of 4 cm x 4 cm M.S. angle bar of 70 cm width and 60 cm height. The seed hopper is made of 20 gauge 91.5 mm thick) M.S. sheet of 60 cm length, 15 cm with and 20 cm height. It has 6 openings (holes) of 20 mm dia at 10 cm apart at the bottom of the4 hopper to deliver seed to the furrow. The agitator type gravity flow seed motoring unit is fitted in seed hopper. The seed motoring unit has 3 components as (a) seed metering plate, (b) seed agitation shaft and (c) V-pulley arrangement for revolving agitator shaft.
The seeder was tested at FMPE experimental plot, BARI, Gazipur in 2001-2002. The seeder was operated by a 12 hp Chinese power tiller. During the field test, rotavator speed was about 450-500 rpm. When the tiller moves forward 3 operations, viz, tilling the land, sowing the seeds and compaction of soils were done simultaneously. The seeder was operated at a speed of 2-2.5 km/h. Before sowing, the seed-motoring unit was adjusted with the respective crop seed rate. After the germination of seeds, plant population was counted.
Research Report
The field performance of the seeder was reasonably satisfactory. There is a wide scope to improve the seeder in further. In the coming rabi season, the seeder will be tested extensively for sowing of wheat, mustard and pulses at different locations of the country. Different types of problem can be identified during extensive field lost and accordingly the seeder will be improved.
