Hybridization in Potato (set-i, Ii, Iii and Iv)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Hybridization was done at Debigonj and Joydebpur using 153 and 103 varieties, respectively under 16 hours extended photoperiod to create variability, and for the selection of desirable genotypes. At Joydebpur, 126 out of 994 crosses and at Debigonj, 187 out of 1144 crosses produced berries. In total 335 g hybrid seeds were produced of which 195 g was at Joydebpur and rest at Debigonj.

Methodology:

100 genotypes (all exotic varieties, Heera, Dheera, TPS 7, TS-15 TPS 67, LB-6, LB-7, Surya, Saikot and Granola etc). Crossing will be made in all possible combination. Each of the available varieties will be planted on a meter row plot at 15 cm x 75 cm spacing following brick planting method. Planting will be done two times, 10-15 November and 7-10 December. Days to first flowering, percentage of flowering plants, extent of flowering, % fruit set, pollen viability, male sterility, seeds per berry, type of embryo, duration of flowering.
