An experiment was conducted at TCRC, BARI Gazipur to study the effects of infestation by the sweetpotato weevil, Cylas formicarius, on yield in 12 sweet potato cultivars were compared. Form the results, BARI SP-8 gave the highest yield (10.95 ton/ha). BARI SP-4 and BARI SP-8 were found lowest infestation 5 roots/plot and 5.67 roots/plot respectively. BARI SP-5 was the most susceptible variety to weevil infestation (14.33 roots/plot). The variety BARI SP-9 gave higher yield (10.21 ton/ha) but infestation level was very high; however, other cultivars were more or less susceptible to weevil infestation.

Pest Management
To screen some genotype against sweet potato weevil infestation.
A total of twelve sweet potato varieties/lines were examined in field to determine the effect of weevil infestation on yield where nine BARI released varieties (BARI SP 1-9), two CIP lines ((H2/08 and CIP 441132) and one local variety were used. Design was RCBD with three replications. The spacing between plants was 30 cm and rows 60cm. All plantings were from vine cuttings, and standard horticultural procedures were followed. The sweet potatoes were harvested at 140 days after planting. Number and weight of infested roots, healthy roots and total roots in each plot were counted and also evaluated for severity of weevil damage. The percentage of infested roots in each line was determined. Data were statistically analyzed and means were separated by DMRT.
