Abstract/ Executive Summary:

To evaluate the performance of candidate varieties at multi locations two experiments were conducted during Kharif 2012- 2013. In first experiment, two candidate varieties viz. SR-08 and SR-01were tested at 4 locations and in second experiment, four candidate varieties viz. BC-0037, JA/08/C, BC-0406 and BC-0303 were tested in eight locations using the variety CB-12 as control. Two used candidate varieties used in the first experiment had the significantly lower yield than the control variety. However, in second experiment, the highest seed cotton yield (2965 kg/ha) was obtained from the candidate variety JA/08/C.

Objectives:

The present study aims to understand the performance of cotton genotypes/advance lines/strains over different locations in Bangladesh.

Methodology:

Two experiments were conducted at farmers field in different zone during 2012-13. In first experiment, the performance of two genotypes (SR-08 and SR-01) were evaluated against check variety CB-12 at 4 locations viz. Rangpur, Rajshahi, Bogra and Mymensingh. In second experiment, the performance of 4 genotypes (BC-0037, JA/08/C, BC-0406 and BC-0303) were evaluated against CB-12 at 6 locations viz. Thakurgaon, Rajshahi, Borga, Jamalpur, Jessore and Jenaidah. Unit plot size was 30m x 8.91 m. The augmented design was followed , 90 cm x 45 cm plant spacing was maintained. Recommended agronomic practices and intercultural operations were done just in time. Data were collected on days to first flowering, days to first boll split, plant height, number of bolls per plant, single boll weight, seed cotton yield per plot and plant population at harvest. The collected data were analyzed through Cropstat program. The agronomic mean data of different locations were presented in this report writing.

Achievement/Findings:

The result suggested that, in experiment 1, the used 2 candidate varieties had significantly lower yield than the control variety CB-12. However, in experiment 2, the used 4 genotypes had statistically similar yield. In this experiment the highest seed cotton yield (2965 kg/ha) was obtained from the candidate variety JA/08/C.
