Determination of Static Charge and Thermal Behavior of Jute and Jute Blended Blanket.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Jute and jute blended blankets are cheaper than wool and synthetic blanket. But jute blanket is hardly used due to its small scale production. This study has been under taken to assess the comfort properties of 7 types of jute, jute blended , synthetic and wool blankets. the results were obtained in terms of different comfort properties i.e. cloth cover factor, crease recovery, stiffness, thermal conductivity, wettability, abrasion resistance, static charge. It was obtained that thermal properties are lower in case of jute acrylic blanket and higher in case of synthetic blanket. But jute and blended jute blanket can be used for flexural rigidity and static charge properties. As a result, jute blended can be used in our country.

Objectives:

a)To develop the product for diversified use of jute blended materials

b)To analyze the thermal properties of jute and synthetic blanket

c)To make a comparison among different blanket

Methodology:

Jute and jute blended blanket were collected from Pilot Plant Division, BJRI. Physical properties such as cloth cover factor, abrasion resistance, surface density were measured by travelling thread counter, abrasion resistance tester and electronic balance respectively. Comfort properties like thermal conductivity, stiffness, wettability, crease recovery and static charge were measured by thermal conductivity tester, Shirley stiffness tester, crease recovery tester, static charge meter at room temperature and humidity conditions. Finally there was a comparison among jute and jute blended blanket with synthetic and wool blanket.

Achievement/Findings:

All jute blanket(Red, grey) showed better performance increase recovery, abrasion resistance, flexural rigidity and flexural modulus compared to jute acrylic(blue, yellow) as well as jute polyester(orange, maroon) blanket. However, their thermal are lower than jute blended blanket. In that sense jute and jute blended blanket can be in lower and middle class family compared to synthetic blanket.
