Effect of Sowing Date on Fibre Yield and Yield Attributes of Advanced Breeding Line Bjc-5003 of Deshi Jute

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted at Jute Agriculture Experimental Station (JAES), Manikganj, Jute Research Regional Station (JRRS), Faridpur and Kishoreganj in 2012 to determine the optimum sowing date of deshi jute breeding line BJC-5003. The experiment was laid-out in RCBD with three replications. The recommended cultivar CVL-1 was used as control. Crop was sown on three different dates like 10 March, 20 March, 30 March and 10 April regarded as treatments. Results revealed that advanced breeding line BJC-5003 yielded significantly higher fibre than control variety CVL-1 at all the locations. The variety CVL-1 yielded the highest at Kishoreganj. The crop sown on 30 March gave the highest fibre and stick yields at Kishoreganj which was followed by Faridpur Rangpur and Manikganj. The crop sown on 10 April recorded the lowest fibre yield at all the locations.

Objectives:

To ascertain the performance and optimum date of sowing for higher fibre yield of Deshi jute breeding line BJC-5003.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at Jute Agriculture Experimental Station (JAES), Manikganj, Jute Research Regional Station (JRRS), Faridpur and Kishoreganj in 2012. RCB Design was followed with three replications. Unit plot size was 4.0m x 2.5m. Space between plot to plot and around the field was 1.0 m and between replications was 1.5 m. Date of Sowing were 10 March, 20 March, 30 March and 10 April. Deshi jute breeding line BJC-5003 was used as study material and recommended cultivar CVL-1 was used as control. Crop was sown in line of 30 cm apart on three different dates like 20 March, 30 March and 10 April regarded as treatments. Standard cultural and intercultural practices were followed. Plants were harvested at 120 days after sowing.

Achievement/Findings:
