Study and Selection of Different Desirable Lines for High Yield and Disease Tolerance.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Two sets of experiment were conducted under this experiment such as- A) Seven F₄lines derived from different cross combinations among the indigenous and exotic accessions were raised at BJRI, Head quarter adjacent field. The parents were also sown in 3m long rows with single line. Twenty seven plants were selected based on their higher plant height, cylindrical shape, fast growth and tolerance to diseases. B) Eight F₁ generation of different cross combinations viz. Acc. 1833 x cap. Dwarf type (red) x Acc. 1515, cap Dwarf type (red) x BINA vegetable, BINA vegetable x Acc. 1515, BINA vegetable x cap Dwarf type (red), Acc. 1833 x BINA vegetable, BJC-718 x Lalshachi and BJC-718 x trilocularis and parents were grown in earthen pots at the Green house premises of BJRI, Dhaka for confirmation. F₂ seeds were collected and bulk within cross. In addition to these the F₂segregation of cross combination of cap dwarf type (red) x BINA vegetable was studied and desirable eight bushy plant types selected.

Objectives:

A. To develop breeding lines which is a) photo and thermo insensitive especially allowing more flexible of sowing and harvesting time with optimum biomass formation, (b) tolerance to problem soil, (c) superior quality of fibre producing characteristics for diversified and their uses. B. To develop breeding lines of dwarf capsularis having more delicious leaves.

Methodology:

Two sets of experiment were conducted in 2010. A) Seven F₄lines derived from different cross combinations among the indigenous and exotic accessions were raised at the BJRI Head quarter adjacent field. Each treatment was sown on 18.04.2009 in 3m. long rows with six lines and spaced 30cm between rows. The parents were also sown in 3m long rows with single line. Intercultural operations were done in time for uniform growth. Twenty seven plants were selected based on their higher plant height, cylindrical shape, fast growth and tolerance to diseases. B) F₂ segregating generation of eight cross combinations viz. Acc. 1833 x cap. dwarf type (red), cap. dwarf type (red) x Acc.1515, cap. dwarf type (red) X BINA vegetable. BINA vegetable x Acc. 1515, BINA vegetable x cap. dwarf type (red), Acc. 1833 x BINA vegetable, BJC-718 x Lalshachi, BJC-718 x Triloclaris grown in earthen pots at Greenhouse premises of Bangladesh Jute Research Institute, Dhaka for confirmation. F₂ seeds were collected and bulk within cross.
