Among the varieties Raja showed good degree of tolerance to late blight where the crop attacked 23 days later than Heera followed by Dheera. After january that minimum temperature increased, resulted rapid development of the disease. It may be noted that 10-12 degree C night temperature is required for germination of zoospore which is the most useful weapon for infection. At the end of crop season all the varieties except Raja affected seriously where disease severity reached more than 8.0 at 0-9 scale irrespective of plantings while in Raja the maximum severity of 4.3 and 5.33 were recorded respectively, on 25 November and 05 December planting. Under the study time of planting greatly influenced on yield where the maximum of 33.89 and 24.77 t/ha yield was incurred in Raja on 25 November and 05 December planting respectively, followed by Dheera, Heera, Cardinal and Ailsa.

To find out the appropriate climatic condition of disease development for taking effective disease management.
The experiment was undertaken to find out the appropriate climatic condition of disease development at Jamalpur with five varieties of potato viz. Ailsa, Cardinal, Dheera, Heera and Raja. Seeds were sown on 25 November and 5 December following RCB design with 3 replications. The plot size was 3m x 3m where line to line and plant to plant distances were 60 cm and 25 cm, respectively. No fungicide was applied throughout the crop period. Weather data on maximum-minimum temperature, relative humidity and rainfall were recorded every day during the total cropping period. Data on Disease intensity recorded at 0-9 scoring scale analyzed statistically.
Annual Report -2002-03
15, 000/-
The late blight intensity and crop yield is greatly influenced by planting time, variety and weather condition. Late planting after 25 November reduced the potato yield. The minimum temperature existing from 21-29 January was not favorable for rapid progress of the disease. But, night temperature at 10-120C is more favorable for developing the late blight intensity. At the end of crop season all the varieties except Raja affected seriously irrespective of plantings time while in Raja the maximum severity up to 5.33.
