An experiment was conducted at Joydebpur and RARS, Jamalpur during 2010-2011 to find out resistant or tolerant varieties or lines of potato against late blight of potato caused by Phytopththora infestans. In Joydebpur, a total of 20 potato varieties/clonal hybrids were evaluated against late blight pathogen under natural condition. Eighteen varieties were also tested at Joydebpur under artificial inoculation condition through detached leaf method. Under natural condition, none had infection of late blight disease. However, under artificial innoculation one variety (Kufri Jyoti) showed resistant, 15 varieties showed moderately susceptible, one variety showed susceptible and one showed highly susceptible reaction to the disease .In Jamalpur, seeds of total 32 cultivars with check Diamant were evaluated. Among the total 32 cutivars, Toluca and Bionic found tolerant to late blight.

To find out late blight resistant or tolerant sources of potato.
An experiment was conducted at Joydebpur and RARS, Jamalpur during 2010-2011. In Joydebpur, a total of 20 exotic varieties were evaluated and variety Diamant was used as check. Recommented doses of fertilizer was applied and all agronomical practices were done as when necessary. Disease data were taken 1-9 scale in natural condition. A total of eighteen varieties were tested for artificial screening at Joydebpur. Detached leaf method was followed where five leaflets were taken from each variety. The leaflets were placed upside down in the screening trays. One drop of freshly prepared sporangial suspension of P. infestans (1 × 104 spores/ml) was placed at the centre of each leaflet and then incubated at 18 ±10C for 5 days. In Jamalpur, seeds of Thirty three varieties and lines were sown. Disease inoculum collected from diseased plants were suspended with water and sprayed over the experimental plot on 1 February 2011. Data were taken on lesion initiation hour, lesion diameter, presence of vegetative growth of the fungus and finally graded them. The scale was indexed by lesion diameter: a) below 1 cm= R, below 2 = MS, range 2.1 – 2.5= S and 2.5 and above = HS.
