A field experiment was conducted during rabi 2010-11 at TCRC, BARI, Gazipur to monitor the relationshipship between the incidence of aphids and virus disease of potato. Results revealed that aphids crossed the threshold limit (20 aphids per 100 compound leaves) during third week of January at Joydebpur and Jamalpur but crossed this limit at Bogra during the first week of January. The highest percentage of viral incidence was recorded at Bogra. There was a significant positive corelation between aphid population and virus infected plants.

Pest Management
To important to know the trend of aphid population build up pattern of a particular area and identification of disease free seed production as well as ware potatoes.
The research was conducted at three locations viz. Joydebpur, Bogra and Jamalpur following RCBD design with three replications. Diamant variety was used as planting materials. Unit plot size was 6m x 6m maintaining spacing 60 cm x 25 cm. Fertilizer was used as per recommended dose as and when necessary. The experiment was set on 02.12.10. Three treatments (locations) were included in this study. Aphid population data were recorded at 7 days interval by 100 leaves index method (Simpson, 1940). The incidence of viral diseases and its symptoms was also monitored visually. The crop was harvested during first week of March 2010.
Annual Report -2010-11, TCRC

Aphid population and virus incidence were more from mid January to mid February at Joydebpur and Jamalpur but the aphid population and virus incidence were found higher from early January to mid February at Bogra. So we need to control the aphid population at that time for virus free potato seed production.
