An experiment was conducted at Breeder seed production Centre (BSPC), Debiganj, Panchagarh, to find out the appropriate dose of Mancozeb and effective method of its application in controlling late blight disease of potato under natural condition. In general the late blight infection was very low in this year. No significant different was found among the treatments.

To find out the appropriate spray method(s) and dose(s) of Mancozeb.
The experiment was conducted at BSPC, BARI, Debiganj, Panchagarh during the Rabi season of 2009-2010 using promising potato variety Diamant. The treatment were three doses of Mancozeb (Dithane M-45) viz. 0.2%, 0.25% and 0.3% and 3 spray methods viz i). Spray with power sprayer ii). Double spray with hand sprayer (1st spray on the upper side of the leaf, second spray on the lower side of the leaf at a time) and iii) farmers practice (spray only on the upper side of the leaf). The experiment was laid out in a split plot design where doses of Mancozeb were in the main plot and spray methods were in the Sub plots. There were 3 replications in the experiment. The unit plot size was 3mx3m. Medium sized tuber were planted at a spacing of 60cmx25cm. Recommended doses of both organic and inorganic fertilizers (Cowdung 10 t/ha, Urea 325kg/ha, TSP 250 kg/ha, MP 275 kg/ha, Gypsum 138 kg/ha, ZnSO4 10 kg/ha, MgSO4 100kg/ha and Boric acid 5kg/ha) were used. Seeds were planted at November 26, 2009. Spraying was started from December 27 2009. Four sprays were applied at 10 days interval. Data on disease severity (1-9 scale) were taken during each spray and converted into percent disease index (PDI). Percent leaf area infection at 80 days after planting were estimated by visual observation and used for analysis. Crops were harvested at 90 days after planting (DAP) and yield data was taken from the whole plot.
Annual Report-2009-10
