Improvement of the Water Resources Management for a Sustainable Rice-wheat System in BARInd Area - Study on Irrigation Scheduling for T.aman Cultivation.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A study was conducted in T. Aman season to find out the suitable irrigation interval and water requirement for optimum rice yield. Five irrigation treatments were followed in this experiment. Highest grain yield (6250 kg/ha) was obtained from T₅ with four time supplemental irrigation (300 mm) at vegetative and reproductive stage and lowest yield (4125 kg/ha) from rainfed treatment. A total of 1017 mm rainfall was recorded during the season. Water productivity was highest 4.8 kg/ha-mm in treatment T₄ and lowest 4.05 kg/ha-mm in treatment T₅. Two supplemental irrigation were given during August at vegetative stage. Again two supplemental irrigation was given at 2nd week of September and 1st week of October at reproductive stage. So, grain yield of BRRI dhan32 was increased about 1.5 t/ha over rainfed condition due to supplemental irrigation at vegetative and reproductive stage.

Objectives:

Methodology:

A study was conducted at Mohanandakhali, Rajshahi Barind area T. Aman season to find out the suitable irrigation interval and water requirement for optimum rice yield. The experiments were carried out with five treatments: T₁=Rainfed T₂=one irrigation at reproductive stage T₃= two irrigation at reproductive stage T₄=three irrigation at vegetative and reproductive stage T₅= four irrigation at vegetative and reproductive stage. Treatments were replicated three times with variety BRRI dhan32. Thirty days old seedlings were used. Fertilizer were applied at the rate of 80, 60, 40 kh/ha, respectively. Plot size was 7m X10 m. Irrigation water was measured for each treatment.
