The study was carried out at Entomology research field of BARI, Gazipur during 2012-2013 to develop IPM package(s) of major insect pests of brinjal. All the tested IPM packages revealed less shoot & fruit borer, whitefly and jassid infestation in brinjal compared to farmers’ practice and untreated control plots. However, IPM Package-1 comprising of mechanical control + spraying of neem seed extract + sex pheromone trapping against shoot & fruit borer + release of egg parasitoid (Trichogramma chilonis) & larval parasitoid (Bracon hebetor) considered to be best since highest marginal benefit cost ratio(5.54) was obtained from this package.

Pest Management
To develop an integrated approach against major insect pests of brinjal.
The experiment was carried out at Entomology research field of BARI, Gazipur during 2012-2013. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with three replications. Brinjal seedlings of BARI begun 8 variety were transplanted in a plot of 8m x 3m. Manures and fertilizer are applied as per recommended dose. Irrigation and mulching were done as and when required. There were five treatments including control. The treatments were:
T1= IPM Package 1: Mechanical control + Spraying of neem seed extract (50 g/liter of water) + Pheromone trapping against BSFB + four times release of egg (Trichogramma chilonis @ 1 gm/ha) & larval parasitoid (Bracon hebetor @ 1200-1400 adults/ha).
T2 = IPM Package 2: T1 + spraying of Spinosad (Tracer 45 SC) @ 0.4 ml/ l of water
T3 = IPM Package 3: T1 + spraying of Abamectin 1.8 EC @ 1.2 ml/ l of water
T4= Farmers practice (spraying of Voliam flexi 300SC @ 0.5ml/l of water at every 5 days interval); &
T5 = Untreated control

IPM Package comprising of mechanical control + spraying of neem seed extract + sex pheromone trapping against shoot & fruit borer + release of egg parasitoid (Trichogramma chilonis) & larval parasitoid (Bracon hebetor) may be recommended for managing major insect pests of brinjal.
