Seed Yield and Yield Contributing Character of Newly Released Tossa Jute Variety O-795 as Affected by Sowing Dates.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted at Manikganj, Jessore and Dinajpur during 2011-12 to assess the optimum sowing date of newly released tossa jute variety BJRI Tossa Pat-5 (O-795) for seed production at late season. The experiment was laid out in RCBD design with three replications. The cultivar O-72 was used as control. Different sowing dates viz., 15 July, 30 July, 15 August, 30 August and 15 September and study materials newly released tossa jute variety O-795 and control variety BJRI Tossa Pat-4 (O-72) were used as treatment. The crop was harvested at proper maturity of the fruits of seed crop. Results revealed that the highest seed yields were obtained from Manikganj (1369.17 t/ha) sown on 15 August July which was followed by Jessore (1100 t/ha) at the same date. But Dinajpur (825 t/ha) sown on 30 July. The lowest seed yield and yield attributes were recorded crop sown on 15 September at all the locations. All other variables were also gave the highest results according to seed yield.

Objectives:

1. To ascertain the optimum date of sowing of newly released tossa jute variety O-795 for maximum quality seed production.

2. To optimize the agronomic means viz., sowing and harvesting time, post harvest processing etc. of jute, kenaf and mesta seed crop.

3. To improve the yield and quality of jute, kenaf and mesta seed.

4. To generate information about jute, kenaf and mesta seed by adopting different seed technological research.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at Manikganj, Jessore and Dinajpur during 20110-11 to asses the optimum date of sowing of newly released tossa jute variety BJRI Tossa Pat-5 (O-795) for seed production at late jute season. The experiment was laid out in RCBD design with three replications. Five different sowing dates viz., 15 July, 30 July, 15 August, 30 August and 15 September and study materials newly released tossa jute variety O-795 and control variety BJRI Tossa Pat-4 (O-72) were used as treatment. Unit plot size would be 4.0m x 2.5m. Space between plot to plot and around the field 1.0m and between replications 1.5m. were maintained. Seeds were sown in line of 30 cm apart. Other cultural and intercultural practices were attended as per BJRI's recommendation.

Achievement/Findings:

The highest seed yields were obtained from Manikganj sown on 15 August which was followed by Jessore at the same date of sowing and Dinajpur sown on 30 July. The variety BJRI Tossa Pat-4 (O-72) was gave better yield than newly released tossa jute variety O-795. The lowest seed yield and yield attributes were recorded crop sown on 15 September at all the locations. All other variables were also gave the highest results according to seed yield.
