Cropping Pattern Survey in Different Upazila of Greater Khulna District

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

In greater Khulna district, Fallow-Fallow-T. Aman is the most dominant cropping pattern in Batiaghata , Dacope, Koyra, Paikgacha, Debhata, Kaliganj, Shamnagar, Bagerhat, Fakirhat and Morrelganj upazilas. The Fallow-Fallow-T. Aman cropping pattern was also found as one of the major cropping patterns in Dumuria, Rupsa, Kachua and Sorankhola. The Boro-Fallow-T. Aman is the most dominant cropping pattern in Dighalia , Dumuria, Phultola, Rupsa, Satkhira Sadar, Koalaroa, Tala, Chitalmari and Kachua upazilas. This cropping pattern is also existed as one of the major cropping patterns in Batiaghata, Koyra, Paikgachha, Assasuni, Debhata, Kaliganj, Shamnagar, Bagerhat, Fakirhat, Mollahhat and Rampal upazilas. The Potato/Maize-Fallow-T. Aman is the most dominant cropping pattern in Assasuni and Rampal. Fallow-Fallow-B. Aman and Pulses-T. Aus-T. Aman is the most domonant cropping pattern of Terokhada and Kachua, respectively.

Objectives:

To identify major cropping patterns and MV rice coverage under different land types.
To identify variety wise coverage and yield level of MV rice for different land types.
To identify major constraints to further adoption of MV rice.
To identify opportunities for increasing cropping intensity and land productivity by identifying fallow period under different cropping patterns.

Methodology:

Questionnaires are sending back to RFSD, which were previously distributed to different upazilas. The information were computerized, processed and analyzed in collaboration with the scientists of Agricultural Statistics Division. Concerned scientist visited the office of UAO to meet up any query raise by the analyst during processing and analyzing the collected data.

Achievement/Findings:

In greater Khulna district, Fallow-Fallow-T. Aman is the most dominant cropping pattern in Batiaghata (62%), Dacope (85%), Koyra (56%), Paikgacha (56%), Debhata (64%), Kaliganj (59%), Shamnagar (85 %), Bagerhat (39 %), Fakirhat (36 %) and Morrelganj (56 %) upazilas. The Fallow-Fallow-T. Aman cropping pattern was also found as one of the major cropping patterns in Dumuria, Rupsa, Kachua and Sorankhola. The Boro-Fallow-T. Aman is the most dominant cropping pattern in Dighalia (46 %), Dumuria (52 %), Phultola (59 %), Rupsa (33 %), Satkhira Sadar (53 %), Koalaroa (63 %), Tala (63 %), Chitalmari (50 %) and Kachua (37 %) upazilas. This cropping pattern is also existed as one of the major cropping patterns in Batiaghata, Koyra, Paikgachha, Assasuni, Debhata, Kaliganj, Shamnagar, Bagerhat, Fakirhat, Mollahhat and Rampal upazilas. The Potato/Maize-Fallow-T. Aman is the most dominant cropping pattern in Assasuni (81 %) and Rampal (81 %). Fallow-Fallow-B. Aman and Pulses-T. Aus-T. Aman is the most domonant cropping pattern of Terokhada (29 %) and Kachua (37 %), respectively. Other major cropping patterns were: Fallow-Seasame-T. Aman (Batiaghata, Dacope, Koyra),Winter Ve-Summer Ve-Summer Ve (Batiaghata, Dighalia, Koyra, Phultola, Satkhira Sadar, Assasuni, Koalaroa, Bagerhat, Chitalmari, Fakirhat, Kachua, Rampal), Boro-Fallow-Fallow (Batiaghata, Dighalia, Phultola, Rupsa, Terokhada, Koalaroa, Bagherhat, Chitalmari, Fakirhat, Morrelganj), Winter Ve-Fallow-Fallow (Dacope, Debhata, Shamnagar), Winter Ve-Summer Ve-T.Aman (Dacope, Dumuria Paikgacha, Phultola, Kaliganj, Mongla), Fallow-Aus-T. Aman (Dacope, Dighalia, Paikgacha, Assasuni, Bagerhat, Rampal).
