Wettability apparatus was design and fabricated with a view to determine an important component of comfort properties of jute, jute-blended, cotton, synthetic and union fabrics. For accurate measurement of wettability it was felt necessary to modify the existing wettability apparatus of BJRI. Accordingly, modifications were done in lightening system, water dropping system and viewing system. The modified apparatus was operated for evaluation of its performance and efficiency. A number of 25 samples of different kinds of fabrics were tested for optimization and standardization of the apparatus. Experimental results showed improvement of its performance and efficiency. The apparatus was design to perform its activities in normal temperature and humidity. The use of this newly developed apparatus will be very helpful for research laboratory, Textile industries and garments industries to identify the fabric properties as outer garments industries

1.To increase the efficiency of the existing wettability tester.

2.To improve and optimize the recently developed wettability tester of the physics Department.

To increase the efficiency of the existing wettability tester a modified design and drawing were made. Thereafter, all required component were collected from local market. Then a cabinet was constructed with wood and ebonite sheet for covering the whole apparatus.

It was observed from the results that jute fabrics dyed after sizing, scouring and double stage bleaching and the desized scoured and double stage bleached jute fabrics acquired highest water absorption capacity which was very close to that of jute cotton union fabrics. Among the three different cotton samples the poplin sample was found to have very low water absorption capacity. 100% wool/polyester has lowest value of water absorbing capacity. There were variations in the value of cloth cover factor of fabric. From the experimental data it was found that the developed apparatus is working well and recorded data is acceptable.
