Advanced Yield Trial (ayt) with Late Blight Disease Resistance Cip Potato Germplasm

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Three CIP clones LB 3 (391058.175), LB 6 (393280.64) and LB 7 (393371.58) were evaluated against late blight disease of potato under field condition at Burirhat, Bogra, Jamalpur and Munshiganj. Popular variety Diamant was used as check. Among the tested clones, the highest average yield (50.78 t/ha) was obtained from line LB-7 followed by LB-6 and LB-3 while Diamant produced the lowest average yield (36.28 t/ha). Considering average late blight infection,LB-7 (13.43%) had lowest and it was highest in Diamant (56.20%). Considering yield & late blight reaction for last four years the two clones ( LB-6 and LB-7) were selected for regional yield trial in next season.

Objectives:

To develop late blight resistant variety

Methodology:

Three CIP clones were evaluated for late blight resistant at four locations namely, Agricultural Research Station (ARS) Burirhat, Rangpur; Spices Research Center, (SRC) Shipgonj, Bogra; Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), Jamalpur and Tuber Crops Research Sub-Center (TCRSC), Munshiganj. The CIP clones included in the late blight trial were LB-3 (391058.175), LB-6 (393280.64) & LB-7 (393371.58) and the BARI variety Diamant was used as check. The experiment was laid out with plant spacing was of 60 cm X 25 cm and the plot sizeof 2.4 m X 2.0 m in RCB design with 3 replications. The date of planting was 24.11.2010 at Burirhat, 22.11.2010 at Bogra and Jamalpur, and 01.12.2010 at Munshiganj. Fertilizers were applied @ 325-220-250-120 kg/ha of Urea, TSP, MP and Gypsum, respectively. Full amount of TSP, MP and Gypsum and 50% of urea were applied as basal and the remaining amount of urea was side dressed at 35 DAP. Weeding, irrigation, earthing-up and other intercultural operations were done as and when necessary. No fungicide was used in the trial. Late blight data were taken on per cent foliage infection visually under natural condition. The crop was haulm pulled at 90 DAP in all locations. The harvesting dates were on 22 & 28 February, 2010 at Rangpur & Bogra respectively and 07 & 06 March, 2010 at Jamalpur and Munshiganj respectively. All the data on growth and yield contributing characters were recorded that statistically analyzed by MSTATC program. Plant vigor was recorded on 1-9 scale, where 1 is considered very poor vigor and 9 is highly vigorous.
