Degeneration Study of Virus Resistance Cip Germplasm in Bangladesh

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Fourteen CIP clones viz. CIP-1, CIP-2, CIP-3, CIP-4, CIP-5, CIP-6, CIP-7, CIP-8, CIP-9, CIP-10, CIP-11, CIP-12, CIP-13 and CIP-14 with a check variety Diamant were evaluated at Jamalpur and Jessore respectively during 2010-11 for their suitability against virus resistant. The study was done through improved and ware practices. At Jamalpur the highest tuber yield was obtained from CIP-10 (62.00 t/ha) with improved practice in new set whereas Diamant produced lowest yield (39.67 t/ha). At Jessore the highest yield was obtained from CIP-14 (47.74 t/ha) with improved practice in new set whereas the check variety Diamant produced lowest yield (35.63 t/ha). Considering yield at both locations the highest yield was obtained from improved practiced in new set than improved practiced in old set. Per sent virus infection was higher in ware practice than improved practice at both locations.

Objectives:

Degeneration estimation of virus resistance CIP clones

Methodology:

Fourteen CIP clones namely CIP 1 (CIP 390637.1), CIP 2 (CIP 391846.5), CIP 3 (CIP 394034.7), CIP 4 (CIP 394611.112), CIP 5 (CIP 394613.139), CIP 6 (CIP 395192.1), CIP 7 (CIP 395193.6), CIP 8 (CIP 395195.7), CIP 9 (CIP 397006.18), CIP 10 (CIP 397029.21), CIP 11 (CIP 397065.28), CIP 12 (CIP 397069.11), CIP 13 (CIP 397073.7) and CIP 14 (CIP 397079.6) with check variety Diamant were included in the study at two locations (Jamalpur and Jessore) during Rabi season 2010-11 to evaluate the degeneration effect of virus resistance CIP potato germplasms. The crop was planted on 29.11.2010 & 05.12.2010 respectively at Jamalpur & Jessore with 6 replications spacing: 60 X 25 cm in 2.25 m2 plots. There were two practices like improved with new set, and old set and ware with practice. In improved practices, insecticides Admire (0.01%) were sprayed in 15 days interval. In ware practice, the insecticide was not sprayed. Fertilizers were applied @ 325-220-250-120 kg/ha of Urea, TSP, MP and Gypsum, respectively. Full amount of TSP, MP and Gypsum and 50% of urea were applied as basal and the remaining amount of urea was side dressed at 35 DAP. Weeding, spraying and other intercultural operations were done as and when necessary. The crop was harvested at 90 DAP. All the virus disease and yield contributing characters data were recorded and statistically analyzed.

Achievement/Findings:
