The experiments were conducted at two locations viz. Tuber Crops Research Sub-Center (TCRSC) Bogra and BRAC, Birol, Dinajpur. The protocol of drought tolerance trial has already been established at CPRI, India and the same protocol was followed in Bangladesh trials. At Bogra, 15 CIP clones (CIP-106, CIP-108, CIP-111, CIP-112, CIP-113, CIP-120, CIP-122, CIP-123, CIP-126, CIP-127, CIP-130, CIP-131, CIP-134, CIP-139 and CIP-142) and at Dinajpur, 15 CIP clones (CIP-108, CIP-111, CIP-112, CIP-113, CIP-118, CIP-120, CIP-122, CIP-123, CIP-126, CIP-127, CIP-130, CIP-131, CIP-134, CIP-139 and CIP-142) with three checks (Diamant, Lalshil and Lalpakri) were included for drought tolerance trial. Plant spacing: 60 cm X 20 cm; plot size: 1.2 m X 2.0 m; design: strip plot; replication: 3; distance between replication: 1 m; distance between Plots: 0.60 m; distance between treatments: 3 m; date of planting: 25.11.10 at both locations. There were three treatments; T1: One irrigation after 1st earthing up at 30 DAP, T2: Two irrigations after earthing up at 30 & 60 DAP and T3: Irrigation normal (3) as practiced by farmer. Fertilizers were applied @ 325-220-250-120 kg/ha of Urea, TSP, MP and Gypsum, respectively. Full amount of TSP, MP and Gypsum and 50% of urea were applied as basal and the remaining amount of urea was side dressed at 35 DAP. Weeding, spraying and other intercultural operations were done as and when necessary. The crop was harvested at 90 DAP. All the growth and yield contributing characters data were recorded and were statistically analyzed. Soil moisture was recorded by digital soil moister meter before irrigation. Canopy temperature was recorded by digital infrared thermometer. Plant vigor was recorded on 1-5 scale, where 1 is very poor vigor and 5 is highly vigorous. Senescence of the crop was recorded on 1 to 5 scale where, 5=0-20%; 4=21-40%; 3= 41-60%; 2= 61-80% and 1= 81-100%). Wilting of plants was also recorded on 1 to 9 scales where, 1 is fully expanded/no wilting and 9 is fully wilted. The crop was harvested on 26th & 28th February 2011 at Bogra & Dinajpur respectively.
