Four insecticides (Dimecron, Dimethoate, Metasystox and Asataf) and three doses of Nimbecidine (0.4, 0.6 and 0.8%) were tested against green peach aphid (Myzus persicae). Results revealed that reganrdless of insecticides and doses of Nimbecidine, all were highly effective against potato aphids.

To look for alternative insecticides to control the potato aphids

The experiment was laid out at Joydebpur with potato variety Cardinal. The unit plot size was 3.0×3.0m. The spacings between row to row and plant to plant were 60 amd 25 cm, respectively. The experiment was set up on December 7, 2003. The treatments were: Dimecron 100WSC (0.1%) Dimethoate (Perfekthion) 40EDC (0.2%), Metasystox-R 25EC (0.2%), Asataf 75 SP (0.15) and Nimbecidine (0.4,0.6 and 0.8%). Spraying was done twice at 20 days interval, initiated when the aphids were noticed in the field. Design was RCBD having three replications. Before every spraying and 24 hours after each spraying aphid conunts were made from five randomly selected plants.

All tested insecticides and Nimbecidine may be used for controlling the aphids in the potato crop.
