Participatory Variety Selection Trial with F1c7 Hybrid Clones of Sweet Potato

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A participatory variety selection trial at farmer’s field was carried out with three hybrid clones namely H2, H8 and H24, and two check varieties BARI SP-6 and BARI SP-7 during the winter season of 2010-2011. When the mean yield of three locations are considered, the highest yield (34.73 t/ha) was obtained from H8 followed by H24 (28.58 t/ha) and lowest (27.66 t/ha) from H2..

Objectives:

To select suitable varieties in collaboration with farmers and other organizations

Methodology:

The trial was set at the farmer’s field of Bogra, Jamalpur and Jessore during the rabi season of 2010-11. In each district the trial was replicated in two locations. Three promising hybrid clones namely H2, H8 and H24, and check varieties BARI SP-6 and 7 were included in the experiment. Unit plot size was of 3.0m×3.0m which was replicated three times following RCBD. Vines were planted on 9 November, 2010 maintaining the spacing of 60cm×30cm. The crop was fertilized at the rate of 10 tons of cowdung, 140kg of urea, 80kg of TSP and 150kg of MP per hectare. Other intercultural operations were done as and when necessary. The crop was harvested on 5 April, 2011. Data were recorded on yield and yield contributing characters from 10 randomly selected plants for each plot and analyzed statistically.
