Twenty one modified single cross hybrids were produced by crossing of 12 S3 sister line single crosses with BIL 106 and BIL 110. In total 21 modified single crosses were made and 6.78 kg seeds were obtained. The crossed seeds were preserved separately for evaluation in the next year.

 To multiply seeds of modified single crosses hybrid field corn

The experiment was conducted at BARI, Joydebpur during rabi 2010-11. The experiment consisted of 12 S3 sister line single crosses and two inbred lines BIL 106 and BIL 110.(parents of BARI hybrid maize variety). Seeds of the sister line single crosses were sown on 25 November 2010 and the two inbred lines at three different dates (25, 27 & 29 November 2010) for synchronization of flowering. Each sister line single cross was sown in one row plot with 5m long and two inbred line was sown in 5 rows plot with 5m long in three dates. Spacing was maintained at 75cm x 20cm (one plant/hill).  After every 2 rows 1.5 m spacing was maintained for easy movement. Fertilizers were applied @ 120,80,80,20, 5 and 1 kg/ha of N, P2O5, K2O, S, Zn and B, respectively. Standard agronomic practices were followed to raise good crop.

The finally selected 21 modified single cross hybrids were maintained and stored properly for evaluating them in the next year.
