Field Validation of Ipm Package for the Control of Brinjal Shoot and Fruit Borer

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The study was conducted at the farmers field of the Chad pasha, Babuganj, Barisal during the year 2011-12 to validate BARI developed IPM package for brinjal shoot and fruit borer. Crop under IPM package (Sanitation + Sex pheromone trapping from the seedling stage of the plant + Spraying of bio-pesticide Spinosad (Tracer 45SC @ 0.4 ml/liter of water) resulted 10.85% less fruit damage and produced 1.2 times higher yield than farmers practice ( Spraying of Cypermethrin 10EC @1ml/litre of water). Benefit cost ratio was also higher in IPM package (3.91) than the farmers practiced plots (2.98).

Objectives:

To observe the performance of the IPM package in a large scale under farmers field condition.

Methodology:

The experiment of was carried out at the Farmers field of the Chad pasha, Babuganj, Barisal during the year 2011-12. The experiment was laid out with three dispersed replication. The unit size was around 0.25 ha. There were two treatments: 1) IPM Package: Sanitation (collection and destruction of infested shoots and fruits) + Sex pheromone trapping from the seedling stage of the plant + Spraying of bio-pesticide Spinosad 45SC @ 0.4 ml/liter of water). 2) Farmers practice = Spraying of insecticides (Cypermethrin 10EC@ 1ml/litre of water). The sex pheromone traps were placed with 10m x 10m spacing in the field. Data on fruit infestation were recorded from randomly selected areas/plot at each harvest. Yield and infestation data were also recorded from both IPM and Farmers practice field. Data were analyzed statistically using paired T- test.
