Cropping Pattern Survey in Different Upazila of Greater Jessore District

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

In greater Jessore district, Boro-Fallow-T. Aman is the most dominant cropping pattern in Jessore Sadar, Abhayanagar, Bagherpar, Chaugacha, Jhikargacha, Keshabpur , Manirampur, Sharsha, Narail Sadar, Kalia, Magura Sadar, Mohammadpur, Shalikha, Sreepur, Jhenaidaha Sadar, Kaliganj, Kotchandpur, Maheshp and Shailkupa. The Boro-Fallow-T. Aman cropping pattern was also found as one of the major cropping patterns in Lohagara and Harinakunda. The Pulse-Jute-T. Aman is the most dominant cropping pattern in Lohagara. This cropping pattern is also existed as one of the major cropping patterns in Magura Sadar, Shailkupa and Shalikha upazilas. The Boro-Aus-B. Aman is the most dominant cropping pattern in Harinakunda.

Objectives:

To identify major cropping patterns and MV rice coverage under different land types.
To identify variety wise coverage and yield level of MV rice for different land types.
To identify major constraints to further adoption of MV rice.
To identify opportunities for increasing cropping intensity and land productivity by identifying fallow period under different cropping patterns.

Methodology:

Questionnaires are sending back to RFSD, which were previously distributed to different upazilas. The information were computerized, processed and analyzed in collaboration with the scientists of Agricultural Statistics Division. Concerned scientist visited the office of UAO to meet up any query raise by the analyst during processing and analyzing the collected data.

Achievement/Findings:

In greater Jessore district, Boro-Fallow-T. Aman is the most dominant cropping pattern in Jessore Sadar (80%), Abhayanagar (59%), Bagherpara (73%), Chaugacha (87%), Jhikargacha (64%), Keshabpur (51%), Manirampur (54%), Sharsha (47%), Narail Sadar (20%), Kalia (20%), Magura Sadar (36%), Mohammadpur (32%), Shalikha (66%), Sreepur (46%), Jhenaidaha Sadar (63%), Kaliganj (63%), Kotchandpur (53%), Maheshpur (62%) and Shailkupa (23%). The Boro-Fallow-T. Aman cropping pattern was also found as one of the major cropping patterns in Lohagara and Harinakunda. The Pulse-Jute-T. Aman is the most dominant cropping pattern in Lohagara (22%). This cropping pattern is also existed as one of the major cropping patterns in Magura Sadar, Shailkupa and Shalikha upazilas. The Boro-Aus-B. Aman is the most dominant cropping pattern in Harinakunda (34%). Other major cropping patterns were: Boro-Fallow-Fallow (Jessore Sadar, Abhaynagar, Chaugacha, Keshabpur, Manirampur, Narail Sadar, Kalia, Lohagara, Jhenaidaha Sadar), Mustard/Boro-Fallow-T.Aman (Jessore Sadar, Bagherpara, Shalikha, Jhenaidaha Sadar, Kaliganj, Jessore Sadar, Bagherpara, Shalikha), Winter Ve-Summer Ve-Summer Ve (Jessore Sadar, Abhaynagar, Jhikargacha, Manirampur, Narail Sadar, Kalia, Sreepur, Kotchandpur), Boro-Summer Ve-Summer Ve (Jessore Sadar, Sharsha), Boro-Aus-T. Aman (Jessore Sadar, Abhaynagar, Mohammadpur, Shalikha), Mustard-Summer Ve-T. Aman (Jessore Sadar, Kaliganj), Pulses-Till-T. Aman (Bagherpara, Narail Sadar), Wheat-Jute-T.
