The field experiment was conducted at Joydebpur and Ishurdi during rabi 2000-2001 and at Joydebpur and Rahmatpur during 2001-2002. The variety BARI Mung-5 and the rhizobial inoculum (Rhizobium strain RVr-301 in 2000-2001 and RVr-441 in 2001-2002) were used in this experiment. The experiment was designed in RCBD having 4 replications in each treatment. Unit plot size was 5 m x 4 m. There were five treatments (T1: NPKSZn, T2: PKSZn + Inoculum, T3: PKSZn, T4: Inoculum and T5: Control). Where relevant, the above rhizobial inoculum and chemical fertilizers were used @ 1.5 kg Inoculum ha-1, 50 kg N ha-1 from urea, 22 kg P ha-1 from TSP, 42 kg K ha-1 from MP, 20 kg S ha-1 from gypsum and 5 kg Zn ha-1. Inoculated plants gave significantly higher nodule number and nodule weight compared to other treatments without inoculum Inoculated plants along with all recommended fertilizers without added nitrogen fertilizer produced highest seed yield, 1.30 t ha-1 (48% higher than control plot) at Joydebpur and seed yield, 1.45 t ha-1 at Ishurdi in 2000-2001 and the same treatment produced the highest seed yield, 1.28 t ha-1 at Joydebpur and 1.76 t ha-1 at Rahmatpur in 2001-2002.

To find out the use efficiency of bacterial inoculum on mungbean and to estimate the contribution of fertilizer for mungbean

The experiment was designed in RCBD having 4 replications in each treatment. Unit plot size was 6m x 5m at Joydebpur and 5m x 4m at Rahmatpur. The variety Barimug-5 and peat based bradyrhizobial inoculum (strain RVr-441) was used for the above experiment. There were five treatments (N P K S Zn, P K S Zn + Inoculum, P K S Zn, Inoculum and Control). Where relevant, the above bradyrhizobial inoculum and chemical fertilizers were used @ 1.5 kg inoculum/ha, 50 kg N/ha from urea, 22 kg P/ha from TSP, 42 kg K/ha from MP, 20 kg S from gypsum and 5 kg Zn/ha from ZnSO4. Zinc was not applied at Joydebpur. The crop was sown on January 15, 2002 at Joydebpur and February 05, 2002 at Rahmatpur. During the course of the experiment, growth and development of plants in the field were carefully observed. Plants along with roots were collected at 50% flowering from each unit plot and dry weight of shoots and nodules including nodule numbers were taken. Plants were harvested on April 16 and 22, 2002 at Joydebpur and April 26, 2002 at Rahnmatpur. Dry weight of seed and stover for each unit plot was recorded.

Inoculated plants gave significantly higher nodule number and nodule weight compared to other treatments without inoculum. Plant receiving inoculum along with phosphorus, potash, sulphur and zinc fertilization recorded higher number of nodule (213 /10 plants at Joydebpur and 145/10 plants at Rahmatpur, respectively) and nodule weight (1421mg/10 plants at Joydebpur and 830 mg/10 plant at Rahmatpur,) in comparison with all other treatments except treatment with inoculum. Inoculated plants along with all recommended fertilizers without added nitrogen, produced highest seed yield of 1.28 t/ha (38% higher over control) at Joydebpur and 1.76 t/ha (64% higher over control) at Rahmatpur but other treatments except control and only P K S Zn treated plots produced statistically similar seed yield at Rahmatpur. The results are in agreements with the results of Ardeshna et al. (1993), Chovatia et al. (1993), Das et al. 1997 and 1999), Bhuiyan et al.(2001), Deka et al. (1996), Gopala Rao et al. (1993) and. Khanam et al. (1999) who worked on mungbean and chickpea.
