The study was conducted with a view to observe the efficiency of Urea Super Granule (USG) on chilli (cv. Tangakhali) at Regional Spices Research Centre, Magura during kharif season of 2008-2009. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block design with three replications. Two forms of urea i.e. prilled urea (PU) and USG with different rates were used. The result revealed that urea super granule had significant positive effect on the yield of green chilli production to normal urea. The recommended dose of N (120 kg ha-1) from USG gave the significantly highest marketable green fruit yield of 9.13 t ha-1. It was also possible to harvest marketable fruit yield of 8.64 t ha-1, 7.92 t ha-1 and 7.17 t ha-1 using 5% less (114 kg ha-1), 10% less (108 kg ha-1) and 15% less (102 kg ha-1) recommended dose of N from USG. This result implied that efficiency of USG was found to be positive on the yield of green chilli and 25% N might be saved using USG compared to PU. The economic analysis also showed that the use of urea super granule was economically viable to cultivate the green chilli.

To evaluate the efficiency of USG on different upland crops.

The experiment was carried out in Regional Spices Research Centre, Magura during rabi season 2009-2010. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with three replications. A popular green chilli cultivar “Tanglakhali” was tested using two forms of urea (prilled or normal and urea super granule) considering the following treatments: T1 = Recommended dose (120 kg/ha) of N as prilled urea T2 = Farmer’s dose (760 kg/ha) of N as prilled urea T3 = Recommended dose (120 kg/ha) of N as USG T4 = 5 % less (114 kg/ha) recommended dose of N as USG T5 = 10% less (108 kg/ha) recommended dose of N as USG T6 = 15% less (102 kg/ha) recommended dose of N as USG The unit plot size was 3m×3m. The plot was fertilized with cow dung, P, k, S and Zn at the rate of 5.0 t/ha, 80kg/ha, 120kg/ha, 20kg/ha and 4kg/ha, respectively during final land preparation and N as per treatments. Forty five day-old seedlings were transplanted on 20thApril, 2009 with a spacing of 60×40 cm. The requirements of urea (prilled and USG) and MOP for one plant were calculated as per treatments and accordingly applied as a ring placement method in two equal splits. According to calculation 7, 6, 5 and 4 number of USG (0.9g each) balls per plant were applied in two splits (3, 3, 2 and 2 number of USG balls at 25 days and 4, 3, 3 and 2 number of USG balls at 50 days after transplanting in T3, T4, T5 and T6, respectively. A ring with a depth of 5-6 cm from the soils surface was made and 10 and 20 cm apart from the planting during 1st and 2nd time of urea and MOP application, respectively. The ring was covered with soil just after application of fertilizer.

There was a significant difference among the treatments in respect of weight of green fruit/plant and yield (t/ha). The highest weight (277g) of green fruit/plant was obtained from T2 and the lowest (213g) from T6. Significantly the highest yield (9.13 t/ha) of green chilli was recorded from the treatments T3 where recommended doses (120 kg/ha ) of N as USG were applied and it was statistically identical to the yield (8.64 t/ha) obtained from T4 where 5 % less (114 kg/ha) recommended dose of N as USG was used and the yield (7.92 t/ha ) obtained from T4 where 10 % less (108 kg/ha) recommended dose of N as USG was used. The highest gross return (32715 Tk/ha), gross margin (183337 Tk/ha) and benefit cost ratio (3.92) were calculated from the treatment T3 where 100% recommended dose of N applied as USG. These results implied that use of all rates of urea super granule found to be economically viable. On the basis of result, it was observed that urea super granule had positive impact on green chilli cultivation. On an average 25% N could be saved as compare to the existing recommended dose of N from prilled urea.
