Economic Analysis of Using Treated Bamboo Materials in Betel Leaf Farms/ Plantations

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A survey was conducted at Gournodi of Barisal, Daulatpur of Kustia and Polashbari of Gaibandha districts to assess the bamboo resource save and profitability of using treated and non-treated bamboo materials in betel leaf farms. The average number of bamboo culms saved was 1060 per hectare per year due to adapting treated bamboo materials use in betel leaf farm. The average rate of adaptation of preservative technology in betel leaf was reportedly found to be 45%. So, total number bamboo culms saved yearly were more than 0.6 million in the study area. The average incremental net benefit stream of treated bamboo material using farm was 202%.

ii) To compare the service life of treated and un-treated bamboo materials

iii) To asses the attitude of local farmers to adopt the technology.

Methodology:

A survey was conducted at Gournodi of Barisal, Daulatpur of Kustia and Polashbari of Gaibandha districts to assess the bamboo resource save and profitability of using treated and non-treated bamboo materials in betel leaf farms. Simple Random Sampling technique was employed on betel leaf farms in the studies areas where the using technique of preservative bamboo material had been disseminated.

Achievement/Findings:
