Assessment of Seed Yield and Quality of Some Tossa Jute Varieties at Saline Prone Area.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted at Sub-station Pakhimara, Potuakhali during 2006-07. It was laid out in RCBD with four replications. The cultivar O-9897, OM-1 and O-72 were used as study material. The crop was sown last week of September and harvested at third week of January. Results revealed that number of seed/pod and seed yield significantly affected due to varieties. The highest seed yield (1.36 t/ha) produced from the variety OM-1 which was followed by O-72 (1.14 t/ha) and O-9897 (1.08 t/ha). From the circumstances of the experiment we could able to know that it is possible to produce desirable seed of tossa jute varieties at coastal zone Pakhimara, Potuakhali.

Objectives:

To assess the yield and quality of different tossa jute varieties in saline environment (costal area).

Methodology:

The study was carried out at Sub-station Pakhimara, Potuakhali during 2006-07. It was laid out in RCBD design with four replications. The cultivar O-9897, OM-1 and O-72 were used as study material. The crop was sown third week of September and harvested at last week of January. Unit plot size would be 4.0m x 2.5m. Space between plot to plot, around the field 1.0m and between replications 1.5m. were maintained. Other cultural and intercultural operations were attended as per BJRI recommendation.

Achievement/Findings:
